Hi guys, Found my grandad after all, thanks to the super tip from Heather about inputting a comma as the surname. Works a treat when the surnames are transcribed by sassanacks! And thank you Ian for offering to have a look as well. Have fun, Mike

Thank you indeed Londoner! I was not aware that the 1911 Census was being released. Already having opened and emptied my piggy bank for two lots of 60 credits at 6.95 GBP's each , I've found and accounted for the William Fuller Newton, James Dunstan and John Glasson Quick families whereabouts, and found some new descendents. Of William Fuller Newton and Sarah Vincent's ten children five were still living in Lelant Town: Eveline, 22 John 20, (shortly to leave for Canada), Edward Passmore 17 George, 15 Gladys Maud Mary, 10. William Thomas 28, was married to Susie Josephine Quick 28, with a son, Randall Dunstan, 6 months (my father), living with his in-laws, John Glasson Quick, 68 and Mary Thomas, 58, in Canon's Town Hilda 23, was living in Penzance. Robert 25, was living in Canon's Town, married to Elizabeth Jane Date , with two children Mary 2 and Charles Clifford 5 months. (Richard had died at age 18 in 1903) I have yet to find Sarah Ellen (Nellie) (b. 14 Oct 1892 in Hayle). Nellie still lived in Canon's Town in 1945, so she must be somewhere in 1911! I'm also looking for another of Robert and Elizabeth Jane's children, Iris Newton, born after the 1911 census, perhaps in Devon, if not Cornwall. My search efforts are reinvigorated!

Welcome back my friend. I gather that Sarah Ellen was not married??? And I cannot find her birth registered in FreeBMD - at least not as Sarah or Sarah Ellen. In fact, unless she was registered late as 'female' here seems to be no record of her. Easily found in 1901 as 'Sarah Ellen Newton' - first on page in actual fact. It could be that she was away from home for a time and in an area not yet covered in the 1911 Census. Be interested to hear when you find her. CT

G'day CT and other Penwith friends I suspect that Sarah Ellen (Nellie) may not have married. In a letter home from Canon's Town in March 1945, Richard John Newton, mentions being greeted by his aunt "Nellie" at the "House of the Newtons" and on stepping in meeting "Uncle George". There being no mention of spouses it may be that neither Nellie or George had married and were perhaps living in the house that once had held the many Newton children.

Isambard - just a possibility. There is a Helen Newton in the Penzance District age 20. That puts her birth about 1891 which is mighty close to your Sarah Ellen. A quick look at the 1901 Census and I can find no Helen Newton in Cornwall. And checking FreeBMD there is no Helen Newton born in Cornwall from 1890 to the end of 1892. I reckon it is a good chance that 'Helen' might be your Sarah Ellen. Remember that mother was recorded as 'S.E. Newton' and George Henry was simply 'George'. Father William Fuller was 'W.Fuller Newton'. Might be worth checking that one out.

Helen does not appear to have been a common name in Cornwall at any time, as compared to Ellen. "Helen" is listed as a Domestic Servant and Assistant, born Hayle (as was Sarah Ellen), living with William and Mary Eddy, address the Post Office, Carbis Bay. Mary Eddy was the Postmistress. Both William and Mary were born in Canon's Town, the "Home of the Newtons" - perhaps family friends?. From another reference, I suspect Sarah Ellen (Nellie) may have worked in the Canon's Town Post Office in 1945.
