Hello All, I wonder if anyone has a copy of the Musters of the Cornwall Militia, late 18th century. I understand that tinners between the ages of 15 and 65 were signed up and I'm hoping there were records for Towednack. I have a copy of Musters of the Cornwall Militia 1781-82 but it is on a floppy disk and I have no floppy disk drive to read it. If someone could help, could I be so cheeky as to ask for a look up to see if there is a William CURNOW listed at all? Many Thanks.

That might explain why we can't find my Lelant gent on the Lelant list...

Unfortunately I am unable to help with this one - at least not directly. But - 'No Floppy Disk Drive' - How did this occur given we are really still in a bit of a transition period with Computer Storage and transfer. I do not recall seeing any of the Muster Rolls for the period in question so, obviously, do not have copies. But let me think about how I might be able to help. I have tried searching the 'net for Muster Rolls but what shows up is usually back in the earlier Centuries - so that is not much help. ** Do you, perchance, have a friend, acquaintance or other avenue of approach where there might be a computer with a floppy disk drive available. If so, then you may be able to retrieve your data that way. My next option would be to read my next PM where I may be able to supply some help for you.

Maybe not only tinners but the lelant list I saw mentioned miners and tinners : lelant.info/soldiers.htmI found a clue on that list which is why I'm now asking about Towednack. Yes, I need to find someone who has a floppy disk drive - must be one at work somewhere. I'll attempt to seek one out tomorrow.

Seek and ye shall find. ;D When you do find it - make sure you find a way to copy the data so you can use it later. But also follow up on the links I provided in the PM to see if there is any help there. www.cornwallfhs.com/For others reading this message - the above is the website for the Cornwall Family History Society which can prove quite useful.

You helpful person you. I have about four of them but they are all installed in computers and about 11,000 miles away from where they are required right now. However, once the required equipment is located and usable make sure that all data is transferred to a more stable medium so that it may be used later on.

Just an update on the 1781-82 Militia Musters on the floppy disks. I managed to get the file copied and the data is not for the West Penwith area. So, I think a visit to the National Archives is required to be sure of the validity of that list I saw for Lelant and to find the list for Towednack. Thanks all.
