I am 'nearly' convinced that our James who married Eleanor HODGE must be the son of Martha PEARCE.
Some of the things I outlined in my recent notes seem particularly suggestive.
Especially 'old James' living immediately next door to Peter and Elizabeth WOOLCOCK.
And then Mary STEVENS, widow, living in 'old James'house in 1851 seems to be another serious pointer.
Combine this with the combination of the Wills of Elizabeth QUICK of 1850 and James QUICK of 1854 and I think the picture is becoming increasingly clear.
I have been searching and thinking (and hurting my head severely ;D) trying to work out what happened to the second James but have so far been unable to come up with absolutely nothing.
So it would seem we are agreed - James, husband of Eleanor HODGE, was the son of James QUICK and Martha PEARCE.
And you are right - the sons of James and Ann make much more sense if James were the son of William and grandson of Edward and Phyllep QUICK.
Yep - I was taught to count. Often times I even add up the prices of groceries when I go to the Supermarket and usually accurate to within a few cents (Even with a trolley full and a bill of nearly 200 dollars!)
Ann TONKYN - I think she was most probably baptised at St Ives 5th January 1750 daughter of Richard TONKING and Honor.
This is probably - Richd. TONKYN m. Honor DAVIES 24th June 1729 at St Ives
It also explains the use of the name RICHARD and I would suggest he may have died sometime not long prior to the birth of young Richard.
Martha PEARCE - most certainly the Martha QUICK buried at St Ives 18th May 1817 age 63.
If accurate it places her birth at about 1754 and, assuming she was born at St Ives, she was baptised 11th May 1754 daughter of Collen and Martha.
Colon PEARSE m. Martha TREGERTHEN 9th February 1753 St Ives
In an earlier posting I discussed my thoughts on this. In IGI I can find only two women named Martha PEARCE who could reasonably be the wife of James QUICK - the one just mentioned and another baptised at Lelant in 1748.
Based on this I am certain that she was the daughter of Collen and Martha.
I am also convinced that all of James QUICK's siblings pre-deceased him - hence no mention of them in his Will. Although I might have thought some mention of nephews/nieces would have been made.
The only sister that I have concerns about is Mary.
If she was not one of the two buried in 1800 and 1805 at St Ives then it would appear she probably married.
And if she married then it would appear she must have been the wife of Paul QUICK and so married in 1815. (Unless she married elsewhere. )
And as I stated in a note from last night - Paul and Mary had only two sons - twins Israel and Paul.
The problem is that both Paul and Mary can be traced in a direct line back to James QUICK/Jane KNIGHT and the name Israel does not appear in this family.
There are other possibilities for the wife of Paul QUICK, of course, although each would be about ten years older than he.
To identify her correctly we will need to find a death/burial for her.
Paul was a widower in 1841 and living at Truro, St Mary but he was buried at Kenwyn in 1860.
Finally, apart from Mary, would you agree that the William QUICK who married the widow Alice LANYON in 1831 at Paul was aso the son of James and Ann - and brother to Edward and Richard who married the sisters WILLIS?
Will have another hunt around to see if I can find what happened to their brother James.
Might then move onto something else.

From a New Zealanders perspective it is always comforting to know that there are Aussies out there who did in fact attend an educational institution and obviously paid attention. But well spotted once again, it was of course a deliberate mistake to ensure that people studied the entries.

If we were sure of Ann and Martha's parentage we may be able to find a will for their fathers?
