Whilst this does not help with Kylie's St Gluvias query it may be of interest.
The PAWLEY family seem to have been amongst the Cornish 'gentry' and certainly mixed with some well-to-do families.
I have just been reading some information on the PHILLIPS family sent to me by Mike.
Much of this was to do with Leases from, in large part, members of the ARUNDELL family.
What is interesting is that what are, at the moment, two separate PHILLIPS families were involved in these leases.
On the one hand we have the family of Henry PHILLIPS of Gulval who originated from, and was buried at, Zennor.
And on the other hand we have the family of Gregory PHILLIPS, Rector of Phillack.
The youngest son of Gregory PHILLIPS, Thomas, married Joane PAWLEY at Lelant in 1670 and she was the daughter of Hugh, gentleman of Lelant, and grandaughter of Stephen PAWLEY, gent.
Stephen married Margaret TRESTEANE according to the Lelant Church History.
Margaret was daughter of Robert TRESTEANE and his wife Grace ARUNDELL.
A daughter of Stephen PAWLEY married John BORLASE whilst others married into the USTICKE and COREY families.
TRESTEANE - I must wonder now whether there is any connection with this family and of Joan TRESTEEN of Gulval who was the daughter of George and Constance VEALE.
Returning to PHILLIPS - Matthew, son of Henry PHILLIPS of Gulval (aforementioned) was married firstly to Elizabeth RALF at St Hilary in 1693 and secondly to Elizabeth BOSANKO at St Erth in 1715.
Matthew's eldest daughter was Elizabeth who, according to Vivian's Visitations, married John DAVIES at St Erth about 1720. (I have found no record of this marriage.)
Catherine, daughter of Matthew and Elizabeth, married Edward GIDDY in 1765 and their son was DAVIES GIDDY who later became DAVIES GILBERT of whom I think everyone has heard.
I think there might be one or two names in the above that might catch the ey of a few interested parties.
