Hi Mike, Cornishmaid suggested I ask you for some help!!! Please I am still on the trail of a John Davies/Davis who married Ellen Bramble. John Davies would have been born 1840/1841 in the Penzance area. We know for a fact his father was William Davies, according to the census born in Paul 1800-ish. We are not sure about his mother but there is a strong theory to say that she was Mary Gendall. What I need is basically... 1. An exact date for the birth of John Davies (BMD failed up until now) 2. A confirmation of John's mother 3. Any information as to the parentage of William Davies of Paul. If you could find anything at the Record Office I would be eternally grateful!!!! Thanks in advance, Malcolm Davies

Hi Malcolm, I'll add it to my list. Can you let me have any census info you have on William, and John. Ages and places would be helpful, as there are a few parishes around the 'Penzance area'. How do we know William is 'of Paul'? Merasta-why Myghael

Hi Malcolm, I have some info for you, but must confess I got my wires slightly crossed. I started looking for the marriage of William and Mary, but then started looking for Williams birth and forgot about John! Sorry. Anyway, I searched Gulval marriages 1820-1837, and also Paul 1816-1832 and did find the following: Paul: 7 June 1831 James DAVIES = Lucy Ann MATTHEWS, witness Christopher DAVIES Paul: 13 June 1826 William Semmens DAVIES = Mary Semmens BODINAR, witness Christopher DAVIES. This marriage is timed nicely for the oldest child to be 14 on the 1841 census. I may have some info on William's baptism by Friday for you. Have a good 'un, Mike

Thanks mate--- NB We believe William to have married Mary Gendall and to have been from Paul- so that William Semmens Davies and Mary Bodinnar one has come up before but been discounted... again it is not certain. Thanks again, keep up the good work!!!

Searched following for baptism of John Davi(e)s to no avail: Paul 1842-1835 Madron 1842-1837 Gulval 1842-1822 Penzance 6/1841- 1/1837 No Davis' in Madron or Penzance. For Paul 1840-1842 were baptisms to John & Elizabeth DAVIS, James & Lucy DAVIS, Christopher & Mary DAVIS. For Gulval baptisms to William & Mary DAVIS for Thomas Henry 7-9-1836, and 24-5-1833 Mary Jane. Suggest you try CFHS indexes.

CORNWALL FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY. They have extensive indexes of births marriages and burials. For a small fee they'll issue you with a list of all John Davis's and John Davies's baptised in Cornwall. The fee depends how long a list it is. I obtained a printout of all Cook baptisms in their Cornwall indexes for £5.00 They have a website: www.cornwallfhs.com with contact info. Regards Mike
