A little problem that I would like some help in solving.
In 1860 Mary Ann BUZZA d/o John BUZZA and Mary (nee WILLIAMS) was married at Ballarat, Victoria, to James TREWHEELA.
I had another daughter assigned to John and Mary and thought it time to get some more detail into the picture.
Soon found out that I was dealing with two separate BUZZA families so sorted that part of the dilemma reasonably satisfactorily.
With the database tidied up a little it was time to find out a little more about Mary Ann and her family.
Briefly:-
John BUZZA was born 'Perran' about 1807 - ref. 1851 Census
He was baptised at Perranarworthal 13th March 1808 s/o George BUZZA and Elizabeth (nee BLACKLER).
John BUZZA m. Mary WILLIAMS 19th March 1831 at St Just in Penwith. (Both signed with their Mark)
With the aid of the 1841 and 1851 Census along with IGI for St Just baptisms, St Just OPR for burials, Madron and Sancreed OPRs I pieced the family together.
For that particular period they seemd to be almost the only Buzza family in the area.
I have found a total of eight children to John and Mary with baptisms located for the first six and burials for Selina and James in 1844.
The remaining children were Mary Ann (1831), Elizabeth (1833), Grace (1835), John (1838), James (c.1846) and Amelia (c. 1848).
The family came to Victoria, Australia, sometime around 1856 or 1857 by my reckoning. (Not yet located Immigration records for them.)
All six surviving children married in Victoria and all died here, as did John and Mary.
Nice and Simple, eh? - Not Quite.
I have two problems - one involves eldest daughter Mary Ann and the second involves a grandson.
Please bear in mind that in January and December of 1844 the family was at TRUTHWALL, St Just, when children Selina and James were buried.
Let me begin with the grandson.
In the 1851 Census the family was still at TRUTHWALL - John and Mary with their six surviving children all at home PLUS a one-year-old GRANDSON named SOLOMON BUZZA! (He was born St Just).
I do not have the necessary resources available to locate a baptism for young Solomon and therefore do not know whose child he was.
At a pinch he may have been the son of Grace but she would have been only 14 or 15 when he was born.
It seems more likely he would have been the son of either Mary Ann (then about 19) or Elizabeth (about 17).
FreeBMD gave me absolutely Zero!
A search using SOL?M?N with no surname entered and covering all events in the Penzance District produced only one birth any where near the right time and that was Solomon CARGAGE in the June Qtr of 1848.
There is not one event recorded in FreeBMD from 1837 to 1922 involving a name that is anything like Solomon Buzza!
Yet there he is in the 1851 Census, plain as day, recorded as the grandson of John Buzza.
I THOUGHT THAT ONE MIGHT BE EASY.
And now for the finale.
Mary Ann BUZZA
I will deal with the Marriage last as that is where my problem lies.
