Hello, I've just joined Penwith Genealogy. My surname interests are Trenoweth Carbis Boyns Wallis Nankervis and variations Arundell to name but a few. I also have Robert Noy and Elizabeth Bottrell in my tree. I believe there was a gentleman searching forthese names? Newlyn

Hi Newlyn, and welcome to the site. You should find plenty of help on here for your family tree. Thank you for the Eachem info you posted seperately. Little snippets are all we need to solve the question sometimes. I also have the complete Phillimores for Cornwall, a very useful resource. Oh, how things have changed for the better over the past 20 years. And I have vague interests in Boynes and Arundell. In the 17th century I have an Arundell Shakerley, born circa 1610, living in Madron, and as yet havent been able to tie in the Arundells with my Shakerley family . Interestingly the Shakerley family ran Bostrase Farm in St Just from at least 1700, if not earlier, until around 1900 when it passed in to the hands of our cousins the Boynes. Wishing you a good weekend regards Mike.

Hi Newlyn, Any info is always gratefully received, although there was nothing I didnt know already! I have extensively researched the Shakerley family, but some mysteries remain and may never be solved! Looking back at known info often focusses the mind to find the solution. As you point out, the 2 sisters married 2 brothers. I havent researched the Boyns family, but believe Henry Boyns was 'Purser' Boyns of Botallack mine, and his brother was known as 'banker' Boyns. As yet I havent checked this out, and I'm sure someone will put me right before very long? Thomas Shakerley, the father, married Alice Phillips whose family farmed at Kelynack. Their first son James was baptised in 1810, and they got married in 1816, just after the birth of second son Thomas!!

Hello Mike Thankyou for your message. A good site for Mines is aditnow.co.uk. There is a mention of Manager Richard Boyns and Captain John Boyns in 1873. In 1856 the purser was J. Boynes. All at Botallack Regards Newlyn

Boyns/Shackerly
In reply to the two brothers that married Shackerleys.... Henry 1817-1906 married Grace Shackerley 1846. Henry was a Grocer. Brother Richard 1824-1899 was a Miller at Bostrase who married Phillis Shakerley. One of their children Niholas married Annie Jane Roberts and 2 of their issue went to USA - I would be interested to know what happened to their descendants? This is not the Richard known as Banker Boyns although they do share the same great grandfather.

Thanks for putting me straight re banker Boyns Captain. Unfortunately I dont have any info down the Boyns line. I'm sure we can track them down somehow. Do you have contact with the Boyns who presently live at Bostrase? Thank you Newlyn for the aditnow info. I'll have a look at the site another day as its time I got some shuteye. Regards Mike

Yes I have made contact with the Boyns who live at Bostrase. It seems there are not many of the Boyns left now in St Just. We both have interesting names to research! Many thanks.

Hi Newlyn
Hooray, someone else with an interest in the Arundell family!
What branch of the Arundells are you connected to? My interest is in the Arundells of Tolverne and then later of Truthall in Sithney.

Arundells: This is probably useless info., but.... I have come across some of the Arundell family while researching my family (There is no "link" to my knowledge). However: Christopher Harris of Kenegie, d.1775, wife Elizabeth Martin, daughter of William Martin of Linderidge. Estate went to "Arundells of Trengwainton" (William Arundell Harris), and then to Thomas Ellis, and, eventually to Thomas Bolitho of Penalverne (in 1866). Kenegie lies outside Gulval, Penzance. Trengwainton is now a National Trust property. I have info. on the Harris family...or go to Burkes Peerage on the net. Another Arundell: George, son-in-law of William Viell (late 1500s), daughter Grace (Bevill) who m. a Peter. These guys were very well-to-do.
David Martin.
