Dear All I'm wondering whether whilst hunting other things anyone has come across a Joseph Perrow born around 1783.
He was my 3x great grandfather who married at St Just in Penwith in 1807. He was not baptised in St Just however and I'm puzzled where he heralded from.

Hi there Having hunted for a baptism for Joseph for some time, I am afraid I had no luck. I did find the marriage you mention, which doesn't indicate he was living anywhere other than St Just in Penwith at the time. I also found what I take to be his death on 3 December 1839, age 56, which is where you have his est birth date from. There are marriages of Perrows at regular intervals, dating back certainly to 1638, so the name wasn't uncommon in the area. Maybe Joseph was born in St Just, but just wasn't baptised Maybe there are some clues in the names of Joseph Perrow and Mary Hosken's children. Family names were often passed down through the generations... although I haven't found another Joseph Perrow as yet married in St Just . If you could list their children's names that might help. Also, bear in mind that Joseph's recorded age at death could well have been wrong which would alter his birth date. Not much help I know In the meantime, whilst waiting for further inspiration to strike, I have listed below 3 Wills listed for Perrows in St Just in Penwith on the Cornwall County Records office website. These are: Edmoud Perrow, tinner, of St Just in Penwith 1706 John Perrow, tinner, of St Just in Penwith 1720-21 John Perrow, tinner, of St Just in Penwith 1725 Edward Perrow, yeoman, of St Just in Penwith 1848 I thought I would list them in case they came in useful in future.

Many thanks. I have often wondered whether he came to St. Just as a child or young adult and simply qualified as 'of this parish' due to the time he had been resident. There is the possibility he simply is not christened. I have also wondered whether he was born under another name with his mother later marrying or living with a Perrow - whether strictly speaking he had adopted the surname (perhaps not realizing it was not his originally). His children were called Isaac, John, Edward and Joseph with the girls being called Mary, Grace, Jane, Elizabeth. Joseph was the youngest child but only by virtue of at least two earlier ones dying in infancy. The names Isaac and John however ranked higher than my 2 x great grandfather's name of Edward and perhaps this is of significance. Mary Hosken's father was called Matthew as far as I can tell so I presume Joseph's choice of names dominated throughout and the names Isaac and John etc are of meaning on the Perrow side. Still puzzling.

I've had no luck either with this one. But I believe it was the younger Joseph who married Eliza Curnow at St Just in 1849. And I think I can add yet another Joseph to this family. Here is the lineup (as I see it) of children for Joseph and Mary:- Mary Perrow bp. 14th June 1807 Joseph Perrow bp. 21st May 1809 Elizabeth Perrow bp. 31st March 1811 Isaac Perrow bp. 29th April 1812 John Perrow bp. 10th October 1813 Joseph Perrow bp. 20th November 1814 Joseph PERRA bp. 30th August 1816 Grace Perrow bp. 24th January 1818 Edward Perrow bp. 1st April 1819 Jane Perrow bp. 6th February 1821 Joseph Perrow bp. 31st January 1823 (m. Eliza Curnow 1849) Best I can do for now.
