Some links to (free) historical photo, film and print sites which I have found interesting over the years. pro.corbis.com/ has 236 historical photos of Cornwall. If you narrow it to Penwith there are 13 which include photos such as - The village carpenter in Gulval, Mr James Jelbert, at work in 1953. He was the fifth generation of his family to do the job. Another with the caption "A gull named Jack is always in the audience when Old Andrew plays the concertina along the cliffs of Land's End, England." which was taken in 1935 www.scienceandsociety.co.uk/index.asp Only one for Penwith but 198 for Cornwall www.movietone.com/ Returns 91 film clips for Cornwall from the 1920's onwards (You have to register for use..... where it says "Company" fill in "N/A") www.bbc.co.uk/nationonfilm/ I'm sure many of you are aware of this one with the Cornish Tin Mining Plus something a little different, a site which is about children who were in the care of The Children's Society in late Victorian and early 20th Century Britain. www.hiddenlives.org.uk/ (Again, use "Cornwall" as your search term) Best regards HeatherC carbissparrow.tribalpages.com

Thank you for those Heather, I wasn't aware of any of those sites. Looking at the pictures of St Ives on the pro.carbis site made me miss it even though I live only a few miles away at the moment. And the hidden lives site was heart wrenching, especially when you see the pictures of those children and read the story of the woman whose husband died of consumption and who had to put her child into a home while she trained as a nurse for 4 years. Thank you
