I have been trying to find the birth and where James Banfield was living after the 1861 census. James was the son of Elizabeth Banfield. Elizabeth was unmarried.
James who place of birth was Madron is 18 during the 1861 census and he is living with his mother at Street and Garrow. In the 1871 census I believe that Elizabeth, surname spelt-Bamfield,is a lodger and living at Halse Town and there is no sign of James.
The surname changes with each census, starting with David Bamfield, whom I believe is Elizabeth's father in 1841 when he was living at Halse Town.

I'm afraid that I haven't been able to find the baptism of James Banfield as yet, but Free BMD gives his birth in the June Quarter of 1843, Penzance RD. I also cannot find James after 1861, despite my best efforts. There is a death for a James Banfield in September Quarter 1863 in Redruth district, but as there is no age given I cannot say this is definitely the same man. Not much help eh . You probably know the details of Elizabeth's parents, etc, but just in case: David Banfield married Ann Dennis on 1 April 1805 at Uny, Lelant. Ann's residence was given as St Ives. (Phillimore) I have found the baptisms of some of their children, all in Camborne. Really have to mention the Camborne OPC's website here, from whence the information came. It is a wealth of information. David Bamfield bapt 30 March 1807 John Bamfield bapt 4 February 1809 Mary Ann Bamfield bapt 22 December 1810 Elizabeth Bamfield bapt 25 September 1813 (Father David is listed as "Husbandsman" Will keep looking around for more information for you.

Can't find him either and tried a few options with spelling in both 1871 and 1881. If we can track down that 1863 Burial it will either help or at at least eliminate the person. Next option is to try and find out if he may have ventured overseas so would need to try and check out some Outbound Passenger records. Have just checked my records for Victoria and can find no record of a death for James down here. (Up to 1980's) Also no record of a Death for him in South Australia up until 1915. Looks like the two options above I am afraid.

Thanks to you both.
I had found the information regarding the Bam/nfield's on the Camborne site.Originally I thought that they came from the St.Ives area but I didn't realise they came from Camborne until I saw Mary Ann and Elizabeth's place of birth as Gwennap in the 1851 census.
Mary Ann and Elizabeth are also on the bal maiden site as are other's in my various lines.
I have looked at the Ellis island and can't find James there.
