Hi Lannanta
The more the merrier. The Glasson/Glasson and Glasson/Hampton intermarriages seem to get more confusing the more I look at them.
I was not previously aware (not having had a reason to go looking for it) of the marriage in 1717 between Thomas Glasson and Susanna Trounsen. This would indeed provide a reason for another group of Glassons to be using the name Susanna.
Would be interested to see the line of descent for Joseph that makes him a 2xgreat grandson of Thomas & Susanna (nee Trounsen) Glasson.
Poking around a bit more, I have stumbled across a couple of databases on rootsweb (one of which was put there I believe by Zenobia).
While I am not sure what their sources were (and indeed they may all be feeding of each other!), there is one thing they all seem to agree on - which just adds further confusion to the mix.
They all have Thomas & Susanna (nee Trounsen) Glasson having a son William who married Honor Wallish and they in turn have a son John who is recorded as the same John who married Christian Uren.
Where it starts to get interesting is with the children of John and Christian.
All the databases seem to agree that there were (amongst other children) two sons Josiah and Joseph
HOWEVER it is the marriages of these two that are interesting
Josias is recorded as marrying 19 Aug 1814 at Towednack to and Elizabeth Dunstone and having 9 children mostly at Gwinear.
Joseph is recorded as marrying 29 Feb 1812 at Towednack to Wilmot Quick and having 9 children at Uny Lelant
ie according to these researchers neither of Joseph or Josias was the spouse of Bathsheba Reed.

Hi there
Joseph Glasson, son of John and Christian UREN was my 3rd great grandfather, and if you are looking at databases by Zenobia then you can be pretty sure that they are accurate.
Joseph Glasson & Bathsheba REED; son of Joseph Glasson & Mary GLASSON (dau of James Glasson and Jane HOSKING); son of Joseph Glasson & Katherine BENNATTS; son of Thomas Glasson & Susanna TROUSEN.

I can get in on this act as well. I was going to post a reply a few minutes earlier but decided to 'extremely quickly' glance through the remainder of the notes regarding the subject of the John Glassons. John Glasson bp. 27th August 1749 at Ludgvan s/o William Glasson and Honor Wallish seems to be the main link here. John was a blaksmith and it was certainly he that married Christian Uren in 1770. John was buried at Lelant 22nd November 1817 aged 68, of Ludgvan. Admon. of his estate was granted 7th April 1818 to Christian Glasson his widow. Bondsmen were Thomas Jelbart of St Buryan, yeoman, and William Glasson of Uny Lelant, blacksmith. For those that may be interested Christian Uren was baptised 27th July 1746 at Lelant d/o Thomas Urenand Joan Ninnes and she was buried at Lelant 28th May 1827 age 80, of Polpear. As already stated John and Christian had nine children. William (also a blacksmith and possibly one of the above-mentioned bondsmen) married Ann GLASSON d/o William Glasson and Ann (nee WALKER) in 1798 at Ludgvan. Ann married William TREWHELLA at Lelant in 1797 and they are my 4xgt-grandparents. John married Elizabeth TREWHELLA (sister to William) a Towednack in 1800 Susanna married George PERRY at Lelant in 1799. Jakeh apparently married Jennifer GLASSON but I currently have no other detail except that he apparently died at Gwinea and was buried at Lelant in 1823. Elizabeth married Thomas JELBART at Lelant in 1803. Josias married Elizabeth DUNSTONE as already mentioned. Joseph married Wilmot QUICK (ditto.) Mary was buried at Towednack in 1792 and that is all I know except that I have a note to query the information. Best move on now but will check this entire thread again and make comments and provide further as I can.

Hi all I understand that Jakeh married Jennifer MURRISH 24/8/1819 at Gwinear. Jakeh was buried at Lelant on the 18th May 1823 leaving Jennifer and two children - John and Ann. When I first started looking at this person, I believe it was he who was also listed as 'Jasper'. Unfortunately most people had then recorded that Jasper was Jakeh's brother Joseph (who married Wilmot QUICK). Lannanta

Carole - I do not know if you have seen this but here is an abstract of a Will I found in my records over the last few days. Hi Ian, Many thanks for this. I do however have Mary’s will. This is Mary Glasson nee Williams 1758-1825 and widow of William Glasson 1755-1814, innkeeper of St Aubyns Arms, Crowan. So you can update your records and hopefully help someone else in the future I’ve written below the full will, although interpreting the writing isn’t a great skill of mine and I could not fully make out the last sentence. I do have a general question afterwards that hopefully you can answer though. Will of Mary Glasson of Crowan Written 27 November 1823 Proved 9 May 1825 (Husband William had died in 1814 leaving to Mary in HIS will, the St Aubyns Arms Inn, all the contents and stocks of liquor. Also left her a ten pound annuity out of rents from his tenements at Tremayne, Crowan). “I Mary Glasson by the blessing of God Being of sound mind and memory doth appoint my son William Glasson executor in trust at this my last will and testament. I first give to my daughter Mary Glasson the sum of ten pounds yearly out of my dwelling house in Praze known by the name of the St Aubyns Arms as long as my interest continues there. I also bequeath out of the same house and premises to my daughter Eleanor Pool the sum of ten pounds yearly. To my son Henry Glasson the sum of five pounds only to be paid at my decease. To my son Robert Glasson the sum of fifteen pounds yearly. To my daughter Hannah Pool the sum of ten pounds yearly all to be paid out of my house as above named. I bequeath to my son Henry Glasson’s children the amount of a bond I have agianst him of ninety nine pounds sixteen shillings and the balance of my book debit due to me of one hundred and thirty seven pounds twelve shillings as will the balance of the years rent that will be due to me from the years ending the 29 September 1823. That is the *** his *** against me at the present time for which I appoint as executors in trust Robert Glasson of Truro, James Pool of Crowan and Johnson Bennets of the borough of Helston to *** and keep the inn as interest as the *** **** I give and bequeath to Martha Botral the sum of five pounds for her kind services to me and for the respect I have for her. Signed 27 November 1823 – Mary Glasson Witnesses James Hill and William Williams.” After Mary’s death, the St Aubyns Arms was taken over by daughter Eleanor and son in law Francis Pool. The Pool family had owned the other public house in Crowan, The Cornish Mount – that being run by Mary’s daughter Hannah and her husband Emanuel Pool (brother of Francis). What interests me about Mary’s will is that she did not leave anything to her eldest son (and executor) William of Falmouth. Was this because he had previously inheritated the sizeable residue of the estate in his late father’s will? However in the paperwork attached to the will, that is even harder to read, it looks like William of Falmouth DID inherit the balance of his mother’s estate also – at least £22 and £1000 is mentioned. Which leads me to ask what does happen to the reside of an estate where nothing is specifically mentioned in the will? Best wishes, Carole If you would like a scanned copy of Mary and husband William's will for your records I'm happy to send them to you - just let me know.

Hi Gandolf, Can I ask, were two of the children of this marriage Josiah Glasson (written Glafson) bp 4 April 1817 and Mary Dunstan Glasson bp 17 October 1817, both in Gwinear. And were the Josiah's (father and son) blacksmiths also? Many thanks! Carole

Carole - I can confirm that the two children you queried were children of Josias and Elizabeth - however Mary Dunstan was bp. 1819. I will leave the remainder of the query to Gandolf as he probably has more on the family than I at the moment. As for the Wills of William and Mary Glasson - if it is not too much trouble I would appreciate copies of both to add to my records. The answer here probably depends on another question. What were the terms of William Glasson's Will in regards to son William?? If the answer to that question does not seem to help then we need look at the most likely alternative. And that would be that William, as eldest son, received his inheritance in the Will of, most likely, his grandfather. Another alternative might be that all children were left the remainder of the Estate 'share and share alike' by some other Deed. Let us see what the other Will has to offer and also see what comments we might get from other members. Ian

Carole, I have read this thread, with interest, as I made contact with another Glasson researcher this week, who tells me, my William Glasson, that married Lystra Glanvill ( Cubert 1796 ), was bapt. 24 9 1775 Crowan, son of Robert bapt 1749, Crowan, son of Robert and Susannah Mitchell. Robert bapt. 1724, Camborne, son of Robard Glasson bapt 1682, Gwinnear and Margery Wering.
I could be joining your Glassons World. ( the gggg granddaughter of William and Lystra married the Vivian descendant ).
I found an Elizabeth GLASOND bapt 19 4 1720, dau of Robard. ( Camborne OPC pages, where I found the other Glasson children's baptisms ). Is she another child of Robert and Margery ?

Hello Carole
I was wondering if you could confirm that the year of death for Blanch was actually 1848 as you have suggested and not 1843 as I have recorded - as Blanch appears in the 1841 census aged 85 indicating that she would have been aged 90 or so at her death if it occurred in 1848.

Lannanta - the Breage PR Transcripts record that Blanch Glasson of Tremeare age 86 was buried 30th January 1843 at Breage.

Hello Gandolf, Carole and others
I have been reading these entries again and the point of interest for me is the identity of the two Johns - one mentioned here - husbands of Margaret Richards and Ann Michelle - the first marriage in 1781 in Crowan and the second in Camborne in 1789.
The second John, married to Ann Michelle in Camborne was a sojourner, therefore not from the Camborne parish. The first John was John junior, which fits Gandolf's assumption that he was the son of John Glasson and Ann Hampton.
So are there strong clues that the John who married Margaret Richards was the son of John and Ann nee Hampton, or is there a chance that that son John actually married Ann Michell?
If Gandolf is correct, who is the John that married Ann MIchell?

Actually, may have found my own answer when I looked at the other Hampton mentioned by Gandolf - Robert Glasson and Jane Hampton had a son John in 1765 which makes him a likely candidate for the second marriage in 1789 in Camborne to Ann Michelle - given that the first son of John and Ann was also a John, and the second was a Robert - being from Gwinear allowing John to fit the sojourner description. Best I help you confuse matters a little more. ;D Just because John Glasson was a sojourner does not necessarily mean that he was not from Camborne. A sojourner is merely a person whose employment takes him away from home for days on end. And some PRs show details such as 'sojourner IN the Parish' or 'sojourner OF this Parish'. So John may well have been a sojourner but also a resident of Camborne. And on the other hand ................... he may not! CT

What you say is true in some cases. I like to also be guided by the following note from the West Penwith web site that has interpreted the word where it is used in the Cornish sense -
Like anything there will always be exceptions but the above is useful methinks.
