One of my lines which I admit to not having spent the time on I should have is SALTER from Redruth.
I have Richard Nicholas SALTER (2nd great grandfather) baptised 02 Dec 1827 to Job SALTER and Catherine LAUNDER. Richard had a sister Catherine (bap 25 Dec 1823), and brothers Job (bap 04 Sep 1825) and possibly William Henry (bap 21 Feb 1830 in Phillack).
It looks like there were two Job SALTER around, with one married to Mary HARRY and being a Private in the wiltshire Militia in 1797 and a Brewery Labourer in 1841. 'My' Job was variously a labourer, engineer and smith.
Has anyone else come across this family?
cheers Kevin

G'day Kevin - Have just had a look at the 1841 Census and found the following:-
Fore Street, Redruth Cathn Salter, 40, grocer Cathn jnr., 15 Job, 15 Richd, 12 Wm, 10
This Job appears to be the only Job Salter born in Cornwall and living in Cornwall in 1841.
In 1851 we find Job Salter (bn. Redruth about 1826) at Ponpull Terrace, Phillack with wife Eliza (23) and son Wm Hy(1). Eliza was bn. Redruth and the son at Phillack and at this time Job was a Steam Engine Fitter.
At Hill, Redruth, in 1851 there is a Job Salter, age 74, labourer who had been born about 1777 at Drageoty, Wiltshire. With him is daughter Jane, aged 30 who was an unmarried Dressmaker born at Redruth.
From just a quick look I cannot seem to find Richard in 1851 and the same goes for William Henry. Also could not find Catherine, their mother.
That seems to be about the best I can do right now.

Thanks for that. I've had a bit of a 'play' and think that the Job born c1777 in Wiltshire married Mary Harry 08 Jun 1797 in Redruth. They had a son Job bap 24 Nov 1799 in Redruth. The second Job married Catherine Launder 15 Jun 1823 in Redruth. They also had a son Job bap 04 Sep 1825 in Redruth (three Job in a row).
It looks like there are a load of SALTERs in Wiltsire so could be that this part of my family is not Cornish after all
Richard (son of Job and Catherine and brother of Job 1825) who was 12 in 1841 married Mary Bodilly (from Penzance, father Stephen) on 08 May 1856 in West Ham, Essex. I have an 1851 census return from Phillack (HO107 Pc 1916 Fol 585 which shows a Richard Salter aged 24 from Redruth and an Engine Fitter (which is what the Richard son of Job and Catherine was in 1859 and 1860). Only problem is the Richard in the census is already married :-( I'll get the marriage certificate of Richard and Mary and see if it says he was a widower which will solve that bit ;-)
cheers Kevin
