A search of Camborne Parish Register Transcripts provided five children for Richard and Ann but I could find no record of Richard having been baptised in Camborne. This, of course, means he came from elsewhere and a check of IGI shows only four Richard Bullocks baptised in Cornwall - 1744, 1747, 1756 and 1757 - and each could potentially have been the man who married Ann Rowe. However, based on the names of Richard's children (Anne, Jenefer, Richard, Grace and Peter) I would be opting for 1747 at this point in time.
Richard s/o Richard and Jane Bullock bp. 26th February 1747 at St Enoder
Cannot be certain of course but this, of the four, seems the more likely to me.
The other parents were as follows:- 1746 - Richard and Mary 1756 - John and Susanna 1757 - George and Elizabeth
Of these the only name used for one of Richard's children was Richard which would be fairly obvious in those days.
Jane and Jenefer were often interchangeable which is why I believe it more likely that the 1747 marriage is the correct one.
Haven't found anything on Anne Rowe as yet but she could prove a little more difficult.

Ian: Thanks for your search. Been looking for this link for a couple of years. Only trouble I have with the 1747 date is Richard would have been 35 at the time of his marriage to Ann Rowe. Seeing how they married quite young in them days??? Wonder who Richard & Jane's other children were beside Richard? Been trying to find any living Bullock's in the Camborne area that might have a clue, but so far no luck. Makes me want to go there & knock on doors! Richard

Hi there, Richard Bullock and Jane's children (that I have found so far), with their baptism dates, were: Edmund 24 December 1742 Honour 5 August 1744 Mary 30 January 1745 Richard 26 January 1747 Peter 6 January 1749 Susanna 28 July 1752 Jane 17 November 1754 So some of the other names tie in with those of Richard and Anne's children also. I wouldn't say age 35 would have been exceptionally late for marriage. Quite a few of mine left it until their 30s to get married. The Bullock name certainly seems to be prevalent in St Enoder.

Do not be too concerned with Richard's age being 35 when he married as this was not totally unusual.
I am doing a check of St Enoder baptisms via IGI and for the Batch covering the period 1718-1863 there are 140 entries.
Children of Richard and Jane:-
Edmund bp. 28th December 1742 Honour bp. 5th August 1744 Mary bp. 30th January 1745 Richard bp. 26th February 1747 Peter bp. 6th January 1749 Susanna bp. 26th July 1752 Jane bp. 17th November 1754
For this family IGI also provides the following about the father:-
Richard Bullock bp. 18th October 1717 at St Enoder son of Edmund bu. 28th May 1784 at St Enoder married 28th February 1741 at St Enoder Jane POLLARD
I cannot guarantee absolutely that this is your family but, on the face of it, I would suggest it is a strong possibility.
Richard and Ann had a son named Peter and he 'may' have been named after Richard's brother as shown above. In fact the only name amongst the children of Richard and Anne that does not really fit is Grace but that could also come from Anne Rowe's family.
Hope this is of help to you.
Ian

Ian & Cornishmaid: Sounds like it could be the right family. Like the way the names tie to Richard & Anne's children. Then Peter had four children with names that match, in Richard William or William Richard, Peter, Mary, & Jane, plus Lavinia, Joseph, John, Jonathan, & Caroline. My ancestor was the William Richard or Richard William who married Julia Skewes, having only one child named Richard William Bullock. The man who married Julia Skewes came to America is 1856 & then was never heard from again, might have been a miner in Grass Valley, California, & dies out there but we never have been able to verify that. His brother John went to Mexico as a miner, but cannot find any record of William Richard joining or meeting him there. But would love to have this tie-in & does look good as can not find any other records that even come close. Now if we can get a tie-in with Anne Rowe will be in good shape. Thanks for the work. Richard

Have been searching for Anne for you, but no luck yet on her birth. There is an Anne Bullock, who was buried in Camborne on 10 January 1834, age 87. Her residence is listed as Barripper. This would put her birth year at approx 1747. Just thought I'd flag it as a possibility, and will keep searching. Also, if you go to Cornwall Record Office online catalogue: crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/DServe/DServe.exe?dsqApp=Archive&dsqCmd=Index.tclthere are quite a few documents listed under the name Bullock which might be worth looking at. I will try to get to the Cornwall Centre today to have a look for Absalom Skewes' baptism/marriage on the transcriptions there. May throw up some clues for you.

Absalom Skewis, t., married Elizabeth CLEMENCE in Crowan on 6 February 1786 (from Phillimore). The only Elizabeth Clemence I could find in Crowan (IGI) was bapt. 8 August 1762; Parents: Joseph & Mary. (No comments please ). Siblings include: James, Christopher, Joseph, Thomas and William. I will also check the Crowan transcripts for Elizabeth. In Crowan on 19 June 1760 Joseph Clemence, t., married Mary Hambly

I will leave this part of the query to Cornishmaid for now as I do not seem to have the required resources available to me. Have lots of other stuff but just not what we need right now. Richard - thanks for your vote of confidence. We do try hard here to look after people and make every attempt to find answers or at least point people in the right direction. If you have queries then just post them and we will do what we can for you. Could you possibly send me a PM outlining what type of resources you have access to in the US? I would have to check through all my information but I will no doubt still have lots of queries regarding my Trewhella and related families over there. Ian

Richard, keep em coming, we'll see what we can do Right, managed to get a quick peek at the transcriptions this afternoon. Firstly a marriage: Skuis, Absalem, Tinner, & Elizabeth (Eliza.) Clemence, Spinster married 6 February 1786 Witnesses: Henry Odger & Thomas Clemence He signed: "Absalom Skewis" Her mark: * (looked like a star) As for the witnesses Henry Odger can be discounted as he was present at all of the Crowan marriages, but Thomas Clemence would have been connected to Elizabeth's family I'd say. The only Absalom Skewes baptised in Crowan from 1691-1845 was the son of Absalom Skewes and Elizabeth Clemence. Their children can be found on IGI, but I checked the Crowan baptisms just to make certain the details were correct, these being Absalum, Eliza and Henry. There were no burials for any Skewes in Crowan from 1691-1845. So I then moved my attention to Camborne where I found a few (although these are probably on the OPC database). I will, however, post these details when I have more time. Actually there is one baptism in Camborne which may well be your chap: Absalom Skewis, son of Henry, bapt 29 July 1750. This would fit in with Abslom and Elizabeth calling one of their children "Henry". As for Elizabeth Clemence, I mentioned before a baptism to Joseph and Mary. I also found another of An Eliza. Clemence, daughter of John & Hanah (Hannah) his wife bapt. 19 November 1769. Actually just two quick burials from Camborne parish, because they look particularly pertinent: Absalom Skewes, buried 12 December 1811 (no age given) Henry Skewes, son of Absalom & Eliz. 14 October 1808 Sorry if this is a bit of a muddle, time is once again against me Will post the rest later

If one assumes (and that's quite a big assumption) that Anne Rowe was from Camborne then the most likely candidate is daughter of David and Jane (nee Trevailer) Anne was bp 5 March 1758 (not another till 1775 a bit too late ) David (possibly bp Redruth 1709 parents John & Joane IGI))and Jane(bp Camborne 1718 father John) married 9th Feb 1740 in Camborne. do you want to check these CT/Cornishmaid? The link below is to a Rootsweb tree that suggests Richard married Honor someone and had a son Richard in 1772, who died 1775 (IGI) this could explain why the marriage to Anne Rowe was late. wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=cvroberts&id=I1220

Dew: (Cornish Terrier) The only resource I use is Ancestry.com. There are alot of small towns that have done research & is available on line. Most of them will talk to you & give any help they can. Kind of like you folks across the pond. Just unbelievable what you have come up with. Filling in a lot of blanks. Will have to look for harder questions!!! Richard

Londoner: Have seen the one of Anne born 5 March 1758 & like the dates & you are right, that first marriage would have explained Anne & Richard's late marriage. Never thought of that. Wonder what happened to Honor? Will pursue that some more. Thanks for the clue. Richard
