Noel Stephens married Katherine Wall on 15/7/1692 at Sancreed. Their children were: Mary, christened. 13/5/1693, marr. Thomas Ellis, Sarah, chr. 5/9/1695, Elizabeth, Richard, chr. 22/8/1703, Catherine, chr. 11/5/1706.
Noel left a will dated 27/9/1734 and proved on 11/11/1734. Can anyone shed any light on his ancestry?

At this stage - 'Ancestry of' - no, unfortunately but I believe he was recorded as 'NOWELL' in many records. I have his marriage in my database and currently have one child assigned to him. The child is Catherine who, from other sources about seven years ago, married PENTECOST DAVY at St Just in Penwith April 2nd 1730. Catherine, according to that information died before November of 1735. It appears that Catherine died and then Pentecost Davy married Elizabeth TONKIN at Sancreed November 25th 1735. Not much more I can do on this one at the moment but please let me know if this information fits in with the later generations. If we can tie enough together we might find some more on the earlier Ste()ens families from that area but I think we would be fortunate to do so as many of the records from that area (Sennen, St Levan, St Buryan etc.) have been lost. We do still have Wills and Land Documents etc. that might help. Get back to me on this one and I will look at it again to see what more might be available. One big problem with that area is that many families (or parts of) seemed to have meandered into Paul and Madron and, sometimes, much further. It becomes difficult to determine just who was who when dealing with a name like Stephens (Stevens), Eddy, Curnow, Quick, Thomas, Warren etc., etc. which had obvious connections down that way for Centuries. Let's plug along and see what we can find out.

I agree, a common patronymic name and hence tricky to know for sure who is who. I did not have Catherine's marriage, but i would not be surprised as the will of Nowell (sic) Stephens, blacksmith, dated 27/9/1734 and proven on 11/11/1734 refers to son Richard, grandsons Noell Davey & John Stephens, daughters Elizabeth and Mary, granddaughter Elizabeth Stephens, and his wife (unnamed) who is made executrix. No mention of catherine, and a Davy grandson.

Looks like we have some sort of match here but I will need to come back to it at a later date. Been working on lots of stuff tonight but have not yet been able to get to a couple of things I need to check out on another line for myself. Will do another scan through the Board and, if necessary, throw in some answers but will then move on to other things for a while.

Theres a burial for Noel Stephens 29.9.1734 Sancreed.
Also a baptism for Nowell Stephens 22.12.1618 Truro St Marys which could be the above Noel/Nowell Grandad.
A Nicholas Stephens married Grace Martyn 3.11.1646 Truro St Marys. Possible parents ??
Just more 'little bits'.
