I might be raking over old coals and/or we may have been down this lane before but.....If we go back to Londonder's original queery about Jonathon Humphries....well.....
Whilst looking for something else, I have turned up Martha Wallis Humphry (b15 April 1827) father Jonathon, mother Honor. Then looking at Jonathon I find him at birth to be Jonathon Humphreys Harvey base child of Mary....Mary "who," I ask myself? Is she Humphreys or Harvey. Cant be Harvey as there is no Mary born at the correct time in the correct place, but there is a Mary daughter of Joseph and Mary Humphries.
This Joseph, I'm almost certain (but can't find it on my data base) is brother to Paul and uncle to Mary Ann Thomas Humphries who married Samuel Harvey Mitchell
Samuel H Mitchell was the son of James Mitchell and Lavinia Harvey. Doesn't this imply that Lavinia's near relative was the father of Jonathon hence being appointed guardian to Jonathon?

Bit more raking over the coals has produced something else concerning Lavinia Harvey.......I think I have found her baptism and family etc. ;D The 1851 census has her age as 49 = dob 1801/2. LEVENJA HARVEY BARNICOAT bap 27 Feb 1801 St Levan, father not named but confirmed by St Levan OPC as a 'Base Child'. Mother named as Ann. There is a marriage twixt Christopher Barnicoat and Ann Giles in 1782 and they seem to have had several children, possibly 10, and Christopher doesn't seem to have died until after Levenja was born. The last 'legal' Barnicoat child to be born was in 1799, 2 years before the Levenja. Now...who was the father???

Hi Tony, I think we are right back to the beginning of our discussion..... In his will Jonathan Humphrys , father of the above Jonathan (the e comes and goes) left very detailed instructions for his "illegitimate son... borne on the body of Mary Harvey" I would love to know who she was. There were several Mary's at St Levan who might have been her - I have no idea of her age or whether she was still alive when Jon Snr died. His wife Anne (b Mitchell, sister of William of St Levan, d/o Simon & Ann, but m as Harvey ) died less than a year after him - hence the connection to James Mitchell of Boscarne who was the other guardian appointed in the will. Mary might have been related to Anne's first husband, but that is pure speculation. Jonathan jnr dropped the Harvey name after the first few children were born - I wonder is perhaps there was a change of vicar who didnt know his history?

Told you I was slow on the uptake!
I can't find many unmarried Marys who fit the bill. The only 'fit' I can find is Mary Harvey (Bp 19 April 1778 St Levan) Father Henry mother Anne.
Henry may be the Henry who married Anne Ellis 28 Sept 1766 at St Just.
So far, I can find no link at all between Henry and James Mitchell, so perhaps I should be looking for a Mary who married a Harvey. I'll have a look at Thomas Harvey who married Mary Williams St Just 1786 after I have eaten. There may be a link there as I have a Samuel Harvey who married a Rebecca Badcock formerly Williams in 1796.
Watch this space........

OK....how's about......Mary Harvey Bp Sennen 2 Dec 1759 father Christopher mother not named. William Harvey marries Ann Mitchell in 1766 and his father was...Christopher Harvey! Ann then marries Jonathan Humphries in 1781 and he has a liason with Mary who is his wife's late husband's little sister. One thing I can't 'prove' is that it is the same Christopher Harvey who is father to both Mary and William. There is a Christopher Harvey b 1707 who fits the bill and would certainly be young enough to have fathered Mary and old enough to have fathered William. ;D Unfortunately, I cannot find ages at death of the few Christopher Harveys listed and it certainly would have helped if 'Mothers' name had appeared on the registers to be transcribed.

I would doubt the William and Mary you mention here are siblings from what I have on the Sennen families.
Christopher Harvey m. Honor Roberts 15th June 1706 Sennen
They had 8 children that I know of.
Christopher (1707) was their second child and first son but was buried 13th February 1707 at Sennen.
Another Christopher was baptised at Sennen 17th January 1708.
The last child of Christopher and Honor was William bp. 29th November 1729 at Sennen and this is the William who 'may' have married Ann Mitchell in 1766.
Christopher (bp. 1708) s/o Christopher and Honor married Julian Andrews 14th November 1751 at Sennen and Mary (bp. 1759) was his fourth child.
So the link between William and Mary would be uncle to niece.

Thanks CT for clearing that up. As I said, I'm not certain that it was the same Christopher who was father to both William and Mary.
Still...here is a link. Instead of 'little sister' insert 'neice'
Also, as you say, we have to 'prove' this William is the one who married Ann.

Tony - I don't profess this to be totally accurate but it is what I was able to put together several years ago whilst working through the PR transcripts for St Levan and Sennen. I think it will be very close to the mark but certainly no guarantees. CT

Another difficulty is to find the death of William Harvey. The only one that I have found that fits time wise is 1768 at Gulval - William Harvey of Rosoon.
As William is described as "husbandman" at the marriage to Ann it is possible that they did not stay at St Levan/Sennen but that Ann returned home after William died. There do not appear to have been any children from the marriage anywhere.
Your choice of Mary d/o Christopher is possible but I would like to know what happened to her after Jonathan was born. The only possible clue is: 16 Oct 1841 BRABYN Mary 77 yrs. Brew This person is listed in the 1841 census at Brew with Jonathan & family - could this be her?

Oh Lordie!!......Thomas Curnow is a problem....and to complete the set, I have discovered that I might also be having to disentangle a couple of Glassons......A Mary Glasson (d 1729 St Levan) may have been married to a Mitchell.
Re WWll aircraft.....We had a Czech controller who had been a Spitfire pilot. On Battle of Britain Air display in 1957 a Spitfire gave a magnificent display of tight turns, rolls etc. As it was coming in to land the Red Arrows flying Hunters, took off. My Czech friend, pointing to the Spitfire said, "Zat is flying...Zay (poining to the Hunters) is being pushed zru ze air.

Must be my day for getting confused! [quote......A Mary Glasson (d 1729 St Levan) may have been married to a Mitchell][/quote] Or do you mean that Mary MICHELL who was buried at St Levan 13th April 1729 may have been born a GLASSON? Could you elaborate a little on this for me please Tony - i.e. what information you have to suggest the possibility of the Glasson/Michell union. CT

Sorry CT....It is who is getting confused. You are quite correct as usual. It was Mary MICHELL who was burried at St Levan.... She MAY have been a Glasson before marriage......Our good friend Londoner managed to find that..... "buried 1729 at St Levan is Mary Mitchell - who is mentioned in the will of Joseph Glasson.......as his sister". (St Buryan thread James Mitchell of Boscarne 20th May 2008) Still trying to find who Mary married! Tony M

Tony - it would appear that your interpretation of the Will is not quite correct. Will of Joseph Glasson of St Levan written 3rd January 1720 "sisters - Mary, Margaret Mitchell & Elizabeth Nicholas" "kinsman Joseph Paull of Sennen" There are others but these are the important ones for the moment. Will of Blanch Glasson, widow, of St Levan written 30th April 1724 "Simon Michale son of James Michale of St Levan" She also mentions children of Thomas Nicholas and Joseph Paule along with Berryman and Wallis children. Will of John Paule of Sennen dated 8th September 1718 "son-in-law JAMES MICHELL' "Margaret wife of James Michell" "son Joseph Paul" This one has always been confusing as it indicates that Margaret Michell was his daughter. UNLESS there were two James Michells involved. OR unless he was married twice and James Michell was actuall a step-son. However - the Mary Michell buried at St Levan in 1729 would appear to have little to do with this problem. CT

And we would all love to know who is and where does this Joseph fit in to the complete Glasson picture?
