I have an ongoing puzzle with the family of my 3xgreat-grandmother Jane Reynolds. She married James Shakerley in 1833 in St Just. In the censuses and on her death certificate the indication is that she was born around 1815 in St Just. The only Jane Reynolds baptised around that time was Jane Rawe Reynolds daughter of John Reynolds and Florence Rowe who married in St Buryan in 1813. The only other possible Jane Reynolds was baptised almost 5 years earlier making her an unlikely candidate bearing in mind the consistency of her age across other records.
I am reasonably sure that I have the right Jane, particularly since her brother-on-law witnessed that Jane's sister's marriage.
I am assuming Rowe was mistranscribed as Rawe bearing in mind her mother's surname.
I have been trying to identify Jane's parents with some difficulty. John Reynolds appears to have died in the 1820s and Florence remarried in 1824 to Richard John in Sennen (her youngest daughter with John Reynolds is living with them at the 1841 census). From the censuses Florence was born in St Buryan about 1791. There is a Florence baptised in 1791 in St Buryan but this is Florence Prouse dau of William Prouse and Jane. I have checked the original baptism and she is not shown as illegitimate. I would have dismissed this entry as a coincidence except that Florence's wedding to John Reynolds is witnessed by William Prouse and Jane Rowe!
I have absolutely no idea what was going on there! Any ideas from anyone else who has looked at any of these names would be appreciated!
