Hi George - don't have a lot of time just now but, having just received your posting, will have a look through and make a start on it.
I have found the Marriage of Charles and Elizabeth in the Madron OPR but the month is June (not January)
Next thing I noticed that was of particular interest is that Elizabeth MARTIN was born at TOWEDNACK (1881 Census).
This is one Parish of particular interest to me so it will be interesting to see what more I can find there.
Now my next step has been to check some Census records to try and find out where to look for baptisms.
1881 produced the above but 1891 proved a little more awkward.
In this case the name is indexed as SIMMONS so I had to try a few options to find it.
The second problem here is that the age given in the Census (Index) provides a birth date of about 1857/8 as opposed to about 1855/6 in 1881.
Looking at your information shows that about 1858 should be correct but it does show up some of the problems with information provided in Census records.
1891 Census - Madron Church Town
Charles Simmons, head, mar, 33, quarry man, Madron
Elizabeth do., wife, mar, 33, Towednack
Annie do., daur, 14, general servant, Madron
Charles do., son, 10, scholar, Madron
William do., son, 8, scholar, Madron
Harold do., son, 6, scholar, Madron
Mary do., daur, 2, Madron
Living next door is the family of Thomas Semmens (44) and his wife Susan whom I presume may possibly be related to Charles.
Also notice that Annie is now listed as 'Simmons' and also as 'daughter'.
I will now try to find the baptism dates for you although they may not necessarily be in order given it looks like the spelling of the name may come into play again.
Madron
9 Jan 1885 William Henry c/o Charles and Elizabeth Semmens (Labourer) of Madron
9 Jan 1885 Charles c/o Charles and Elizabeth Semmens (Labourer) of Madron
6 Nov 1885 Harold John c/o Charles and Elizabeth Semmens (Labourer) of Madron
7 Aug 1887 James Howard c/o Charles and Elizabeth Semmens (Labourer) of Madron
2 Dec 1888 Mary Evelyn c/o Charles and Elizabeth Semmens (Labourer) of Madron
1893
3 Nov Violet d. of Charles (Labourer) & Elizabeth Semmens
1899
29 Sep Gladys d. of Charles (Labourer) & Elizabeth Semmens of Church Town, b. 3 Mar 1898
Madron Burials
Howard James Semmens of Madron, aged 5 mon 18 Sep 1887
(This could well be 'James Howard' above
)
Charles Semmens of Madron, aged 11 7 May 1893
** Looking at some of this I can now some reason for the confusion in names regarding Harold Semmens.
As you can see from the above information there was a 'James Howard' baptised to Charles and Elizabeth followed by the burial of a 'Howard James Semmens' at Madron.
It appears there were many 'late baptisms' in this family.
Ok George - I am going to have to close off this note now.
Will take a quick look through the rest of the Board whilst I finish eating and then must get to bed for a few hours in preparation for another night at work.
Let me know if this helps and we will work from there.
