I have the 1662-1664 Hearth tax for all Penwith parishes, and also for a few parishes in Kerrier. Would be happy to look up anyone as needed....

You may get some requests from me. In fact - if you have these lists for Cury, Helston, Wendron and maybe Breage they could be useful. When you have a chance please check on the names of Trewhella (var.) and Polglase.

Breage: 1662/1664 William Polglasse 1/1 Thomas Oliver 1/ now Thomas and Henry Polglasse Wendron - none Helston - none don't have Cury. I also have the poll tax (I think it's 1660) for Helston and half of Wendron (missing second page) but neither name shows up.

Hmm - Interesting, and thanks for that. Will try and investigate this Trewhella/Polglase thing a little more and see what I can come up with.

Wouldn't mind a look-up for Trengoves and Nances, to confim my findings?
I am acquiring bits and pieces from Subsidy returns at other dates.
I will post a list of what I've got idc.

Also, Thomas Noale offered a "free and voluntary present" (1661) at St. Ives of 7 pounds, but never paid it...

Yep, sounds like a Noall ;D Many thanks for that . Just one query (and sorry to sound thick ), but what do the figures after the name stand for?

From memory (too lazy to look at my books right now) the first figure indicates that taxes were initiated for 'x' number of Hearths whilst the second figure indicates the number of Hearths actually found on the premises. You will occasionaly see a reference in Hearth Tax records to 'one stopt up'. Hope that helps for the time being.

Almost - the first figure is the number of hearths located and assessed in 1662, the second figure is the number of hearths located and assessed in 1664 (or any comments pertaining to..)

Z, I would be interested to know if either a Furze or Angwin is listed. I am sure you will have numerous Angwins. Thank you in advance. CJ
