In the Michell Thread our Administrator, Zenobia, has shown disappointment at the fact that a number of early PR/BT entries have not provided enough information for analysis to give an indication as to the connection of Jennet MICHELL (m. ? PERRIE in 1611) to Honor PERRY who later married John GLASSON.
Well, being the kind-hearted and diligent person that I am I re-read that and some other notes and began thinking. (And now I have a headache .)
HOWEVER - I do believe that I just MIGHT have an ANSWER. ;D
I made mention yesterday in another thread about the way some of the early Zennor documents might be useful and the ways in which they could be made useful.
My intention here is to try to provide a 'flow-chart' of how I have (I believe) found the answer to Zenobia's dilemma.
(I do hope everyone is paying attention )
In the previously mentioned thread I named three documents in particular which, combined with the remaining available PRs/BTs and Wills might help piece together families.
1. A Church Rate of Zennor c. 1613
2. 1641 Protestation Return for Zennor
3. 1662-64 Hearth Tax for Zennor
Whilst answering the latest query I began thinking and it occurred to me that I concentrated on only a couple of names that were particularly relevant to the Michell/Phillips query I dealt with yesterday so tonight I have proceeded as follows:-
1613 Church Rate
Danyell PERRY
1641 Protestation Return
NONE
1641 Protestation Return - Morvah
NONE
1641 Protestation Return - Towednack
Lawrence PERRY
(At this point things are looking a little forlorn - to a point - as I would have expected to find at least one or two Perrys in the area but certainly not a 'Lawrence'.)
1662-64 Hearth Tax
John PERRY taxed on 1 hearth in both years
(There are no PERRY names in the Towednack or Morvah lists)
I have nothing of use, in this case, regarding baptisms or burials for Zennor in the time-period required so will now take a look at the Phillimore & Taylor Marriage Transcript.
26 Nov 1611 ...... PERRIE m. Jennet MICHELL
25 Sep 1625 Ralph MICHELL m. Margaret (might be useful later)
19 Jan 1645 JOHN PERRIE m. ANNE UDY
[.........] 1649 ...... PERRY m. Elizabeth CHRISTOPHER
There is a gap in the Register here
3 ____ 1673 Richard PERRY m. Grace KNIGHT
25 Feb 1692 John EDY m. Abigall PERRY
1 Apr 1727 Daniel PERRY m. Ednah RENAWDEN
13 Feb 1727 John THOMAS m. Mary PERRY
20 Feb 1727 James BERYMAN m. Alice PERRY
That takes us through to the end of February 1754 but certainly gives some further food for thought.
And now I will turn to a couple of Wills:-
JOHN PERRY, yeoman, of Zennor
written: no date (nuncupative)
proved: 12 Apr 1675
son: ALEXANDER 1 L 15 sh. 1 d. (which was given to him by his
grandmother) + 1 sh.
daughters: HONOR, ELIZABETH & ELIZABETH 1 sh. each
sons: DANIEL & GOERGE ? sh. each
wife: JONE tent. in Boswidnack (to GEORGE after her death); all
the rest
witnesses: wife JONE PERRY, JOHN THOMAS
Inventory taken 24 February 1674 by NICHOLAS BERYMAN and JOHN THOMAS.
GEORGE PERRY, yeoman, of Zennor
written: 2 Mar 1722
proved: 3 Oct 1723
brother: DANIEL PERRY 1 sh.
sister: HONNOR GLASSON 1 sh.
sister: ALICE STONE 1 sh.
eldest daughter: MARY PERRY a pied heifer of 10 years old
youngest daughter: ALICE PERRY 2 ewes & 5 lambs
wife: LOUDEY all the rest & executrix
George ( ) Perry
witnesses: RICHARD LEMBREY, RICHARD LEMBEY
Vol. 6, p. 143
There are obviously some problems here that need to be researched and worked out.
1. Two daughters named ELIZABETH and son ALEXANDER in John Perry's Will of 1675.
2. John names his wife as JONE yet there is a marriage record to 'Anne Udy'
3. Possibly part of the time-line.
Apart from that I think that there is enough here to suggest that HONOR GLASSON (nee PERRY) was the daughter of JOHN PERRY who was, in turn, very likely the grandson of THOMAS MICHELL of the 1621 Will.
And now it is 'over to you'.
