Thanks Zenobia. I think Gideon's first wife was Julia Cassandra Conner. He later married Ellen Hudson. It mentions this on the findagrave link you posted earlier. It is confusing, because it looks as though he also named a daughter Julia, by his second wife. I will try your advice by phoning the local library. It will have to wait a few days though as I'm going away. I'll let you know the results. This sleuthing business is proving to be a lot of fun.

Hi Janelee - I notice that Zenobia has tried to check out the Newspaper thing for you and notice there seems to be some difficulty. But I am sure there will be a way around this problem. I also noted Zenobia's comments in her latest note on this thread and have to agree. Have confidence that an answer will be found (preferably the correct one and we will do our best to help you. Soon as we clear this a little - and a clear some other queries - and ........ - we might get back to working on that Trewolla family. ;D

Wrong state.... this link is Charleston, Missouri, which apparently is in Mississippi county... Charleston, Mississippi is in Tallahatchie County. Very confusing!

To all - thank you for your assistance with this and I am sure we will find something of help. Genie - forget the and keep up your good work. There are some easy mistakes to be made and, believe me, I have found a few of them. (Probably still licking wounds for one or two ) I may be a little slow with a couple of items over the next few days with so much happening but please PM me for reminders. Will do my best to keep up and see what more I can find.

Don't be embarrassed Genie - at first glance it really did look like Mississippi, as that was the name of the county.

Thanks to everyone who responded over the last few days. I have been away so couldn't reply sooner. My apologies. Zenobia, I took your advice and rang the local library today. They couldn't help so I rang the Sun-Sentinel newspaper offices. Unfortunately, their archives only go back to the 1960's but they suggested that I ring the local courthouse. And bingo! Success at last. I explained my problem to the very helpful lady there and she said that if she could locate the records for me, she would be happy to send me a copy. Wasn't that kind of her? She wouldn't even accept a contribution from me. The only problem I had was when I gave her my address. My accent is quite different now and I think she had trouble understanding me. Anyway, fingers crossed that something turns up. I hope this information helps anyone else looking for newspaper archives. The county courthouse is another 'port of call'.

Well done 'janelee' - a few pointers and a decent amount of persistance can pay off in the end. I am sure you will let us know the results so will be looking forward to hearing all about it. Guess you have noticed the notes about my impending move so it may be that we have to defer talking more on the Trewolla family a little. Still have heaps of information to work through on them but please feel free to post any queries and I will do my best to answer in reasonable time.
