You are quite correct Cornish Terrier, Sukey Welch is indeed James Noall's auntie. It would appear she was baptised as Susanna Welch and then called herself Sukey; whereas James Noall's sister was christened Sukey, but called herself Susan. . I would say that a Sukey Welch being witness at the wedding of James Noall Jnr and Rebecca Richards would definitely maybe indicate a family connection as Grace Welch (daughter of Michael Welch and Susanna Hain) married James Noall Snr.

I have done a quick search of all my notes, but nothing else has come to light at present as to James Noall Jnr's death. I think the Mariner/Mate research angle is definitely worth a try. And if anyone is a subscriber to the Origins Network it would be worth looking up the Trinity House petitions to see if James' widow, Rebecca, made a petition upon her husband's death.

Will leave it there for now. Give me a shout if clarification is needed on anything. And it would lovely to know your connection with the Noall family afjones .

Sorry, CFHS stands for Cornwall Family History Society. Have been reading the literature about the Masters and Mates lookup service, and it appears you have to be a member of the CFHS in order to request a search.

Would you like me to request the search? I have another Noall I keep meaning to organise a look-up on, so it wouldn't be a problem. James is part of my family so it would be good to know some more details about him for my own records anyway.

Let me know and I'll galvanise myself into action .

BUT the fun does not end here.

That highlighted named of Kennick now becomes interesting.

It is actually KERNICK.

In brief:-

Mary Kernick Berriman was d/o William BERRIMAN and Mary KERNICK.

Mary KERNICK was d/o Richard KERNICK and Elizabeth MAY.

Richard KERNICK was s/o Richard KERNICK and Ann PENBERTHY.

The last named (i.e. Richard and Ann) were married at St Ives in 1781 and had, to my knowledge, eleven children.

One of those children was the aforementioned Richard who married Elizabeth MAY at St Ives in 1808 and produced part of the above.

The eldest child of Richard and Ann KERNICK was NANCY bp. at St Ives in 1782.

Nancy married one William NOALL (bn. circa 1788) at St Ives in 1810.

They had seven children that I can account for.

The sixth of these children was:-

Betsey NOALL
bn. Treloyan, St Ives 11th January 1823 (Family Bible)
bp. St Ives 2nd February 1823
died 12th December 1914, Kew, Victoria, Australia
buried Trentham Cemetery, Victoria, Australia

MARRIED 5th October 1850 at Lelant to BENJAMIN TREWHELLA

Starting with the first marriage you mention, which does indeed connect to the same Noall family we have been talking about, I did have Robert Welch Noall and Mary Kernick Berriman in my database, but hadn't pursued that line any further. There are indeed 2 sets of transcriptions for that marriage, one with the witnesses mentioned and one without. Mm.. I wonder if that Berriman is connected with my other one..

As for Mary Kernick Berriman's parents, I only had William Berriman and Mary unknown. Their daughter's middle name should indeed have been a pointer in the right direction eh, .

Now, you know the Nancy Kernick who married William Noall... do you by chance have any details on William's parents by any chance?

And come on dear cousin, where is the Curnow connection?

Still working on the scenario.

Have now printed off all our correspondence to try and make things a little easier for myself.

Just found Grace NOAL in the 1841 Census at Factory Lane, St Ives with sons James and Michael.

And living next door was a Mary WELCH, 20, dressmaker with Susan RICHARDS, age 7.

Have also just checked the 1851 Census and found the family which now shows children as James, Michael, Robert W, Richard and Sukey H.

Seems old James had a canny knack of being 'elsewhere' when the Census was taken.

Will have to continue this later so please bear with me.

Re: William Berriman - I believe him to have been bp. St Ives 17th December 1820 as s/o William Berriman and Mary (nee Daniel)
I have nothing further so far on parents for either but Mary was buried at St Ives 8th January 1824.

William Berriman was a 'joiner, shipwright' and remarried 20th March 1825 to Eliza PAYNTER of whom I know nothing.

Now, you know the Nancy Kernick who married William Noall... do you by chance have any details on William's parents by any chance

Hmmm - Can't say that I 'know' either Nancy or William although I think that I might like to have known them. Unfortunately they died quite some time before I was born. ;D

No - all I know at present about that William NOALL is that (according to his age in the 1841 Census) he was born sometime about 1788.

I have, so far, been able to find he or Nancy in any Census after 1841 and, unfortunately, do not have the Burial records for St Ives for the relevant period.

It appears from the 1841 Census that he was six years younger than Nancy.

Now, some items from my last posting that may be of interest.

The family of Adam and Jane LANDER living next to James and Eleanor NOALL is going to help you (I think).

These are, I believe, the parents of Nancy Richards LANDER who married Thomas NOALL in 1839. (Thomas being son of James and Eleanor).

Now back to your note of May 10th

You stated that " James Noall Snr's parents I believe to be Thomas Noall b. 1744c. and Elisabeth Quick: they were married 1 October 1781."

A couple of points to think about here:-

1. The marriage date (according to Phillimore & Taylor) was actually 1st October 1780.

2. Elizabeth Quick was a WIDOW at the time of this marriage.

And now the fun begins - (Bill Curnow - where are you?? )

By my reckoning, based on available information, the only Elizabeth Quick, widow, who could have married Thomas Noall in 1780 is:-

Paul Quick m. ELIZABETH QUICK 27th January 1772 at St Ives

There were two children that I can find - Paul bp. 1774 and Richard bp. 1776.

I have found nothing further on this Paul Quick so suspect he died and his burial is amongst the information not available online.

Will have to try and pursue this further tomorrow as I need to get to bed now.

I have some further comments to make regarding information you have provided and also other information that I have found but need to be a little more clear-headed to work on it.

Thanks for all that . Had Adam Lander as father, but didn't have the mother's maiden name... so another Curnow eh. You don't happen to know if Adam and Jane Lander had a daughter called Wilmot born circa 1819 do you? I just ask because a John Noall married a Wilmot Lander, whose father was an Adam Lander... but maybe we ought to leave that one for a while .

As for the Master and Mates information, I forgot to say that I set the wheels in motion today for obtaining the relevant information. Have asked for details of 4 Noalls, James and Richard (the original purpose of this thread ) included, so fingers crossed . Will post the details as soon as I hear anything.
