James UREN and Bernard TREGONING, yeomen, of Redruth, posted a bond, along with widow Jane RICHARDS, of Illogan, for the estate of James RICHARDS, yeoman, of Illogan, on 8 April 1844. The bond states that James Richards died intestate on 31st May 1842. If an inventory was ever filed, it does not seem to have survived.
All indications are this is the same James Richards whose civil death certificate shows his death in Illogan on that same date, 31st May 1842, at age 51, occupation: Miner; cause of death, "Decline."
In 1841, the family is enumerated in Illogan Highway, with James' occupation shown as "Ag Lab." A lease in 1839 from Basset to James Richards on property at Highway naming lives of Caroline age 18 and Eleanor age 10 & Mary age 8 his daughters "late held by William Hocking," coupled with William Hocking's LWT written 1818 which names daughter, Jane, wife of James Richards, gives reason to believe this is the James Richards who married Jane HOCKING on 12 May 1816 at Illogan.
But who were these men, James Uren and Bernard Tregoning, who joined Jane in posting the 1844 bond for James' estate? Was there a familial relationship, and if so, on which lines?
Bernard/Barnard Tregoning seems to be enumerated in Redruth Churchtown in 1841, with wife, Frances, and apparent children Elizabeth, John, Frances & Sampson.
I suspect this couple is Barnard Tregoning, widower and resident of St Agnes, and Frances Tremayne UREN, who md 24 Sept 1820 in Manaccan Parish. The family seems to have emigrated to Iowa County, Wisconsin, USA, prior to the 1850 census, where the surname is listed as "Tragonon." (By 1860, it is shown as Tregoning).
Was Frances Tremayne UREN (wife of Barnard Tregoning) related to James UREN?
The 1841 Redruth census enumerates two James Urens - one a hatter, the other a copper miner. (My money is on the copper miner as the other bondsman.) James Uren, the copper miner, appears to have married 21 Dec 1821, Redruth, to Elizabeth BROWN.
Can anyone 'connect the dots' between these families?
Could the common thread be James Richards (whose parents are unknown to me), or is it the family of his widow, Jane Hocking (whose parents appear to be William Hocking and Ann Trewela) ?
Any connections to this line or insight greatly appreciated.
