Hello I am Peter. I live in Melbourne, AU.
I have just joined this group. My primary family name interest is Trewella and variant spellings and their families. Via a dna match out of Mexico, I found a reference to the OPC site, I asked a question and then ‘Cornishmaid’ referred me to this site for the Trewella line.
A quick summary; my mother was Wilma Trewella daug of my GF Frank Trewella 1903-1980 and Hazel nee Schwaebsch. 1GGF John T 1861-1918 and Cecilia nee Rule (Cornish). 2GGF John T 1827-1900 and Caroline nee Bartle (Cornish) 2GGF, John T migrated to AUS in 1858. 3GGF John T 1798-1831 and Mary nee Edwards. 4GGF William T 1770-1817 and Elizabeth nee Hocking. 5GGF (dna common match ups to this couple - William T 1730-1811 and Ann nee Cock). 6GGF Martin T 1695-1763 and Catherine nee Baragwanath. 7GGF Martin T and Alice nee Phillips. 8GGF Thomas T and Katherine nee Boswin. 9GGF James T 1582-1653 and Blanche unknown. 10GGF John T 1550-1625 and Elizabeth unknown. Hopefully all correct, may change as I uncover better records via the OPC and information shared here.
Parishes identified so far; Camborne, Redruth, Towednack, St Erth.
I have identified other Trewella’s via DNA matches and trees to USA, NZ, AU, UK and MEX.
Apart from the main Trewella line, other interests include; Rule, Bartle, Edwards, Gundry, Semmens, Hocken, Boswin, Cock and Baragwanath.
I am happy to share any info and images I have with others.

Greetings, Peter After many attempts over the years, I believe I finally found the right place for Caroline Bartle in my tree. DNA matches are supporting my theory I also have Trewhella ancestry. You are likely to have many cousins here, Zib

Hi Peter and Welcome to Penwith Genealogy! I live in Northeast Victoria and have been working on the Trewhella (and variant) families for over 40 years. I have also met and corresponded with quite a number of your Trewella relatives over the years. I agree with the outline of your family up to this point How did you arrive at the conclusion that William Trewhella and Ann Cock might be the parents of the William who married Elizabeth Hocking? After all that is a reasonable leap from Towednack where the family had been for 170 years and continued for another couple of hundred years to Redruth? In fact the parents of your William of 1770 were William Trewella and Jane White who were married at Redruth 5th August 1769. In the marriage register the surname was spelt TREWEELOR which is possibly what threw you off the track. Spelling variants is something you really have to watch out for and in our surname alone I once had 23 variations in my database. And since then I have found a few more in various old records! The William Trewhella baptised at St Ives in 1771 son of William Trewhella and Ann Cock is actually my own direct ancestor and he married Ann Glasson at Lelant in 1797. The 'potential' good news is that there appears to be a good possibility our families do link back in the early 1600s. I am still working on that but your William Trewella I believe is descended from the marriage at Camborne in 1686 of Charles Trewheelah and Margery Luke. Records are missing for this family but the 1678 Will of Christopher Cock of Helston named grandsons Charles, Thomas, Matthew and David Trewheela. His daughter appears to have died prior to 1678 but as a Christopher Trewheela witnessed the Will it suggests he was the father of Charles Trewheela and his brothers. I now suspect Christopher was probably born at Towednack sometime during the early 1630s. But that is enough for now! You will find a TREWHELLA forum under the Families of General Interest section so please use that for any Trewella (var.) and related posts and queries. BTW - I am very interested in your DNA match with someone in Mexico so could you please elaborate and I will see if I have anything in my database. CT

Welcome Peter. One of the few benefits of having a Facebook account is that you can access various family history research groups. If you are interested, one of the best is The Rules of Cornwall (and beyond) www.facebook.com/groups/236722413398303. There you will be able to trace your Rule line from Cecilia/Celia back to Old Robert Rule who was buried in 1619. You and I are distant cousins, probably 12th-ish. There is also a group Hocking Family History - Hocking Descendants Inc www.facebook.com/groups/236722413398303. Your Elizabeth Hocking is part of the Camborne Hocking line so we would be distantly related there too. I agree with CT that her husband's parents were William T and Jane White. This William's father was also William T and he married Jane Hocking. She was also on the Camborne line but a different branch, the one I descend from. Cheers Spike in Adelaide
