Hi,
I would like some help, I'm tracing my great aunt MINNIE POTTER b. 1874 Penzance, her parents were FREDERICK POTTER and ELIZA ROWE.
Her siblings are as follows:
ELIZABETH ANN b1855, Richard James b. 1858, d, 1933 CHACEWATER, EDWIN CHARLES, b, 1860, d. 1936 PENZANCE, Eliza Jane b. 1862 d, 1928 MAESTEG, WALES, FREDERICK b.1864 d. 1925, Elizabeth Ann b. 1869 d ?, GEORGE b. 1871 d? , GEORGE THOMAS b.?, Mary Ann b. 1875 d.?. All born in Penzance.
I've found her on the 1891 census for NEW STREET, PENZANCE. I am trying to find out if she married and when she died, so far no luck.
Would it be possible if any members can help I would appreciate it very much and it would help me with my research.
Thank you
cornishgirl43.

Yes, I think we can help with this little problem. One thing you need to be aware of is that although some girls were/are born and/or baptised as 'Minnie' it is actually often another name for 'Mary'. (just as Molly and Polly are used for Mary) Another point to keep in mind, especially when using the Census, is that ages will vary so you need to look a couple of years either side of a recorded age just in case. So on to some answers. Minnie MURLEY, widow, age 32 can be found in the 1911 Census at Back Marine Terrace in Penzance along with here widowed father Frederick age 80 and her daughter Minnie age 7. Minnie was actually born Mary Ann Potter and her birth was registered at Penzance in the September Qtr of 1875. Mary Anne daughter of Frederick and Elizabeth Potter of New Street, labourer was baptised at Penzance St Mary 6th October 1876 (I suspect the Vicar made an error with the mother's name but this is certainly your Minnie) 30th August 1897 Penzance St Mary John MURLEY age 19 bachelor labourer of 41 New Street son of Thomas Murley labourer and Mary Ann POTTER age 21 spinster of New Street daughter of Frederick Potter stone mason were married by Banns - Witnesses:- Frederick Potter, Minnie Potter The witness, Minnie Potter, was Mary (nee Wilson) the wife of Minnie Potter's brother Frederick. (Once again someone named 'Mary' being known as 'Minnie') CT
