I was just wondering if you had James Penberthy and Catherine Richards in your database as I see you transcribed some of their family records.
They were married 1798 at Lelant. In particular I am looking for the parents of James Penberthy.

Hmmm - methinks you may have a minor problem here. The marriage at Lelant in 1798 was to MARGARET Richards not Catherine and in fact the only marriage in the OPC database for James Penberthy to anyone named Catherine is the marriage Gwennap in 1833 to Catherine Hart.
I do have the marriage of James and Margaret in my database and only with three of the later children with those details being entered way back in 2010. I have never actually done any real work on this lot so unfortunately I am not able to help much at the moment with an identification for James.
Having had a quick look at possible burials there are possibly three candidates prior to 1841 (James doesn't seem to appear in the 1841 Census). Problem is that I think there is more than one candidate for each.
James and Margaret appeared to have had just 6 children with all being daughters - Margaret, Jane, Mary, Hannah, Charlotte and Mary. Two daughters named Mary might suggest the 1763 Lelant baptism to Stephen and Mary Penberthy but then Hannah could point to the 1773 baptism at Lelant to William and Hannah.

Just checked my database again and I think the son of Stephen and Mary can be ruled out. I have that James married to Jane Davey at Lelant in 1785 and then buried at Ludgvan in 1846.
But this is old information so I wouldn't guarantee anything without putting a fair bit of work into checking it all.
1773 St Ives baptism for James son of John and Margery appears to be out as well - I have him married twice 1. Thomasine Hendy in 1798 and 2. Elizabeth Semmens in 1811 both at St Ives. He was buried at St Ives in 1841.
Son of William and Hannah is the favourite at the moment for your James ................ but!!!

Thanks CT Yes the result of a long frustrating day with the James PENBERTHY's I definitely did mean Margaret Richards. I see there were a lot of Penberthys at Vorvas, so at the moment I will just put him on hold and use the "see who is left over at the end" system. I need to collect all the data first and stop trying to solve problems as I go along . So some future work coming up perhaps. Lannanta

Yes, and another name with some quite odd variations occasionally!
I think the son of William and Hannah may be the one you want but best to try and eliminate all other possibilities first.
There are quite a number of Penberthy Wills available for Lelant including James in 1837 and James in 1838. Also a William Penberthy in 1812 so I will try and take a look at those later this afternoon.

Yes I am slowly collating all I can.
As for the son of James and Mary you mention (both Penberthys) I actually like their son James to be the one that married Amelia Phillips, he is in 1851 cencus born 1794 so really fits.
But I just need to slow down a bit and not make any assumptions until all the facts are sorted first.

My pleasure. It has also helped me tidy up another little section of my own database. BTW - except for the possibility of some variant spellings I think I now have all the pre-1859 Penberthy Wills for Lelant. I haven't had a chance to read them all but many of them are just Admons. and Bonds. Still, should be enough to help piece together the general Penberthy population in the area. CT
