Hi, I'm new to this site and new to searching family history. I have recently retired and asked my wife if she objected to my researching her family history as mine had already been done extensively. Anyway the Angwin part seems fairly straightforward and I'm progressing with the Willis', but the Curnows are a conundrum. I was given a brief "tree" as prepared by a cousin ( one of the Curnows) but am having trouble picking up a thread. My wife has a particular interest in the wife of Charles William Curnow (b1871) who was mayor of St.Ives in 1937 and 1938. His wife was given as Annie Sampson b1869 and my wife thinks she may have had a connection with Tiverton in Devon. I have tried all the lists of Births, Marriages and Deaths I can find, but with no luck so far. Can anybody help, please?
I should point out that I have received some wonderful help from a gentleman who shall remain unnamed (I assume that's the protocol) but unfortunately for him I accidentally gave him some incorrect information so I didn't move any further forward.

Welcome the site djl. Annie Sampson, wife of Charles William Curnow, was born at St Ives, Cornwall 3rd August 1868 and baptised 21st September 1868 St Ives Wesleyan Methodist Circuit. Her parents were Edward Sampson and Joanna Hocking who were married in 1867 in the St Pacras Registration District in London. I'm afraid I cannot tell you anything about Edward Sampson at the moment. From details of Annie's baptism I know that Edward was a master mariner but he was not at home for the 1871 or 1881 Census and had died by 1891. Give Edward Sampson was a master mariner I have checked the following collection on Ancestry:- UK and Ireland, Masters and Mates Certificates, 1850-1927 There was an Edward Sampson in the records who received his Mates Certificate in 1864 and according to the records he was born at Truro in 1841. It is possible this is the man you are looking for although I cannot be absolutely certain. I hope that might be of some help. CT

Thank you Cornish Terrier, that will, hopefully, kick start my search and where I need to look. I wouldn't have thought of trying St.Pacras. I will probably have more queries re the early Curnow history. I made my wife laugh, with one search where I found that one of the early Thomas' appeared to have married his own mother and fathered himself!
I thought I had got it sorted in my mind last week, but then on rechecking found that the wife of Thomas Curnow I was looking at would have been 64 when she had her last child! i am still working my way through all the posts on this site, so I expect I will find much more useful information.
Thank you once again.
