I know that in the past people have asked about George Lanyon. I found out a little information from Bill Lamparter's Lanyon family trees held at the Courtney Library Museum Truro.
George was the son of Katherine eldest daughter of George Kekewich esq. (or Ketchwich it is spelt both ways on the tree) born C1526 he was MP for Saltash 1552 and Sheriff of Cornwall 1576. He died 26 June 1581. Inq p.m. 24 Eliz part 2 No 13. Will dated 20 Jul 1581 and proved 9 Nov 1582. George Kekewich was married to Katherine daughter of Edward Courtney of Landrake and Margaret d/o Thomas Trethurff.
Katherine Kekewich married an unknown Lanyon sometime before 1581 and is mentioned in her father's will. "To my daughter Cate Lanyon the £6.13.4 given her by her grandmother Buller and £3.6.8 more" (Salt Lake City Cornish wills 1559-1584).
Ref: "A Survey of Cornwall" By Richard Carew 1602. P.372
"Divers other gentlemen there dwell in this hundred (Kerrier): as Lanyne, the husband of Kekewich; his father married Militon, and bearers, S. A Castle, A.Standing in waves B. over the same A falcon hovering with bells O." (John Lanyon Esq who married Philippa Militon.) Which of John's sons married Katherine Kekewich before 1581? John married Philippa Militon in 1562 and their eldest son Francis was born in 1563, another son born after that would have married at a very young age if he married before 1581.
George is mentioned in the will of his uncle Frances Kekewich gent (the 5th son of George Kekewich). Ex 20 May 1633, proved 6 Sep 1633. Buried 18 Jun 1633 St Germans.
"I give George Lanion twenty shillings a year during my lease of Manoby with this proviso that he wander not the country as a beggar contrary to God's and man's lawes hoping the rest of his friends will make up the rest that must be paid for his board."
If Katherine was married before 1581 and was producing children then her son George Lanion mentioned in Frances Kekewich's will in 1633 is not a young man.
There is a George Lanyon baptising children in Sancreed in the 1560s. (Jane, Alsen (base), Jane, Elyzabeth).
(Interestingly Bill Lamparter has this George Lanyon as the father of John Lanyon buried Madron 13 April 1634 who married Mary at Sancreed 16 Nov 1584, yet none of their children and just one of their many grandchildren is called George which seems strange in a family so fond of perpetuating family names!)
There is a George Lanyne buried in Sancreed 16 Nov 1592.
There is a George Lanyon gent marrying Prudence at Madron 10 Nov 1605, Prudence died 1606. He married again at Madron, Blanch 10 Apr 1607.
George Lanyon buried Madron 1616.
Presumably Frances Kekewich is not referring to either of these Georges as they are both deceased before 1633.
So what happened to this George Lanion and who is his father?
