Hello Everyone,
I am new to your forum. Still fumbling around with the technology. Not quite sure what to post where but trying to do the right thing. I am an Aussie searching for information on Young Family in St Ives. Thank you Cornish Terrier for replying - I have not found your bit on the open forum but it is just me being a bit hopeless.
Regards AmandaBB
Huge Apologies to Cornish Terrier - just found the comment.

Hi Amanda - it is probably best, at least for the moment, to confine your 'conversations' to one of the 'Young' threads in the St Ives Parish section. That way we can try and keep everything in one place and make it easier to follow what is happening. Still no sign of Loolah but hopefully she will catch up with us all again soon. CT

Coooeee! I am here! Apologies for the delay in responding but I have had my head buried in my first novel (writing not reading!) And, my dear Cornish Terrier, guess where it is set? Yes, of course it is. Now, how may I be of assistance to AmandaBB? Ooops, should I be posting this in the St.Ives section? I'll pop over and have a look in there. Good to be back. Loolah

Hi AmandaBB and Loolah, I have been working on my family tree for several years now and may be able to shed some light on the Young family tree for both of you. Loolah I am a direct descendant of Peter Young B1806-, Thomas Young's B1804 younger brother and son of James B1772 and Jane Tonkin B1771. I have completed all of the direct descendants of Peter Young B1806 to date if you are interested. The tree is quite large as you can imagine. I included all the siblings in my tree as I went along. There are lots of Peters and James's. Peter B1806 married Elizabeth Christmas B1805 and had six children. Peter B1806 had a son James B1837, Born St Ives and became a plumber in Middlesex with his father James B1772 who was also a plumber. James Young B1837 married Emma Smith B1839 emigrated to Melbourne, Australia 2/1/1872.
The six children of Peter B1806 and Elizabeth Christmas B1805 are Tonkin B1827 (John Tonkin), Elizabeth B1828, Robert B1832, Catherine (Kate) B1834,James B1837 D1897 and Jane Tonkin Young B1840 D1914.
Please visit newcumnockhistory.com for information about Rev James Young B1711 D1795. He was the fourth minister of the New Cumnock church. I have concluded that the rev James Young did have a first marriage before he married Elizabeth Hunter. I do believe that they had a son James B1740 who was the solider that moved to St Ives and married Jane Purefoy. I have not been able to find out who he married and a possible match is Nancy Kelly B1719 Antrim Ireland.
Hope this helps both of you with your research.
Cheers Peter from Oz
