There is a Curnow family from Phillack on the OPC. Parents John and Sarah; Children: Sarah 1730, Hester 1732, Hannibal (good Curnow name)1734, Jacob 1735, Elizabeth 1738 and Jane 1742. I am unable to find a marriage for John and Sarah, nor a baptism for John, or for that matter Sarah. There is a hint out there somewhere ( Ancestry?) of a St Buryan wedding and a 1760 death for John but I am unable to verify either bit of information.
Has anybody any information on John or his antecedents. I have plenty on his descendants.

The OPC website has the following marriage: 30 Sep 1727, St Buryan, John CURNO of Fellack married Sarah Weymouth by licence (transcribed from Phillimores)
I've no particular knowledge of the family, but I wonder if the individuals have any links to those referenced in a mortgage deed, X627/1 in the Cornwall Record Office, on Selena in St Buryan. An extract can be found in the Discovery catalogue on the National Archives website (I searched for John Curnow Phillack). The deed seems primarily between Elizabeth Weymouth, widow, of St Buryan and John Curnow, merchant, of Phillack. The extract also includes references to various leases and includes the statement "Term to begin on the decease of Sarah, nee Weymouth, wife of John Curnow" which could indicate a St. Buryan marriage. There is another Curnow name mentioned as "life" in the extract, namely John Curnow, younger son of John Curnow of Phillack, yeoman".

Hi Roger - not sure how hard you have been looking but ……………
John CURNO of ye Parish of Fellack and Sarah Weymouth of this Parish were married by Licence 30th September 1727 at St Buryan (St Buryan Parish Register)
John Curnow was baptized 11th October 1697 at Ludgvan son of John and Esther Curnow.
I have not found a marriage for John and Esther but I believe it to be a second marriage for the John Curnow who married Avis Gibbs at Ludgvan in 1680.
Sarah Weymouth was baptized at St Buryan 2nd May 1698 daughter of Wm Weymouth (Will Wamoth was married to Sara his wife 26th September 1696 St Buryan).
William Weymouth wrote his Will in 1721 and it was proved at London in 1730.

I have now come across 30+ variations of my own surname in documents and transcripts over the years and have learned to be quite imaginative when searching. It is not much different with 'curnow'. CT
