CT et al
Sorry to be jumping all around the place but I have a marriage in 1782 between Jane Glasson of Madron and Cyprian Richards who I believe was a widower at the time.
I also believe that one of his sons, Thomas eventually went on to marry another Glasson.
But do you have Cyprian Richards in your database and if so can you please give me an overview of his family?

I certainly do have this family in my database. It appears to be about 8 years since I looked at it but as far as I know it is all correct.
The earliest I have for Cyprian's line at the moment is his grandfather Francis who married Catherine Jose at Gulval in 1701. So far I have only recorded their son Francis who was baptized at Gulval in 1714 and buried their in 1790. The younger Francis Richards married Elizabeth Friggens at Gulval in 1741 and for this family I have so far only recorded the two children who were of interest to me at the time.
1. Christian bp. 26th October 1746 Gulval married Andrew Nicholls 19th February 1765 at Gulval 2. Cyprian bp. 6th February 1752 Gulval married firstly Anne Lugg at Madron 2nd October 1779. This was a shortlived marriage with, as far as I can tell, no children. The Madron Parish register records Anne's burial as follows:-
1780 at Madron
sisters [ Jane daughter of Henry Lug age 25 December 12 [ Anne the wife of Cyprian Richards of Ludgvan age 27 December 14
Cyprian Richards then married Jane Glasson at Madron 14th November 1782 - I have her bp. 14th December 1755 Madron to James Glasson and Jane Hosking.
** Note - a correction, I just found that Cyprian and Anne Richards baptized a son named John at Ludgvan 22nd April 1780 **
Cyprian and Jane had three children but note the large gap between baptisms!
1. Thomas son of Cyprian and Jane Richards bp. 26th December 1783 Breage. Married 1 Mary Matthews 14th April 1810 at Paul (7 children) Married 2 Ann Glasson 16th May 1854 at the Independent Chapel Penzance (she bp. 7th October 1798 Paul daughter of Thomas Glasson and Jane Daniel)
2. Cyprian son of Cyprian and Jenifred Richards bp. 7th 18th September 1785 Breage (I have nothing more on him at the moment)
3. Rebecca Ellis Trudgeon daughter of Cyprian and Jane Richards bp. 16th January 1803 Paul married William Glasson 30th July 1834 Paul (he 7th October 1804 son of John Glasson and Constance Edmonds) - 5 children

There was another daughter , Ann 1 Jan 1794 baptised at Sancreed parents "Sipron" and Jane. She married John Wallis who was convicted at Bodmin for abandoning her and their 7 children! This one rang a bell because I remembered the name Cyprian Richard s Wallis as one of the children And I just found another daughter Jane in 1790, fills in some of the gap you mentioned above!

Thanks Londoner, that makes the picture look a little better. And having now looked for children of that marriage I see another name to confirm the link - daughter Rebecca Ellis Trudgeon Wallis baptized at Ludgvan in 1829. CT

Thanks Londoner and CT
That is pretty much how my notes were stacking up but I was just a bit thoughtful of the Breage baptisms and concerned that there might have been another Cyprian.

CT and Londoner
Yes and there is another baptism in 1788 at Sancreed, Francis, parents Sipron etc
Also for the first marriage there is a John Richards baptised at Ludgvan in 1780 to Cyprian and Anne.

Lannanta - I had found John at Ludgvan (see earlier post) but I did miss Francis even after Londoner's post. And it makes sense for a Francis in the family given that was the name of Cyprian's father and now explains the Francis Richards who witnessed the marriage of Ann Richards and John Wallis.

That's okay we've made doubly sure now that she is recognized! BTW - Londoner mentioned 7 children for John Wallis/Ann Richards but I have been able to find only 6. Those I have are:- James bp. 1814 Paul (but recorded as son of 'James' and Ann) Jane bp. 1816 Paul John bp. 1819 Paul Cyprian Richards bp. 1822 Paul Nanny Richards bp. 1827 Ludgvan Rebecca Ellis Trudgeon bp. 1829 Ludgvan At a guess I would place the 7th child between Cyprian and Nanny but that is purely because of the five year gap. If details of the 7th child are known then please let me know so that I can update my database. CT

The number 7 comes from the 1829 Bodmin Bridewell admissions register. I think, but no proof as yet, that the seventh was Elizabeth (Betsey) who married Thomas Carbis in 1840. Her father was given then as John Wallis but she would have been born befor he marri d Ann Richards.

Thanks Londoner - I've had a quick look but can also find no proof. So far no possible baptism for Elizabeth/Betsy as either Richards or Wallis so it does make it difficult.
For those interested in this family, especially if using Ancestry, Thomas and Elizabeth can be found in the 1851 Census as CARRIS. It is actually CARVIS and I have submitted a correction.

I am interested due to a connection to my Sampson line via marriage. Thomas Carbis and Elizabeth had a son named Peter born in Ludgvan circa 1844 whom I have as the husband of Grace Penberthy. If I am correct, Grace was the daughter of Isaac Penberthy (Lelant) and Christiana Martin (Towednack.) Her brother Isaac's great-great granddaughter, Edith Rose Penberthy, married William Richard Sampson who was a descendant of my 3rd great-grandfather, Josiah/Joseph Sampson, and his first wife, Jane Luke.
While attempting to attach some of this to my tree, I found Cyprian Richards Wallis (son of John Wallis and Anne/Nanny Richards) and wife Jane Toman living in Brooklyn, New York where Jane died from a probable brain tumor. I suspect Cyprian returned to Cornwall and died there in 1896. Perhaps that will be of interest to someone researching this family.
As an aside, my great-great-aunt, Eliza Harvey, married William James Newnham Carbis. That Carbis line seems to go back to Kenwyn, so I don't know if it is related to the Carbis family mentioned here. I have had Eliza in mind lately due to a DNA match.
