Isambard - I can fill in some of those details for you. The 1911 Census indicates that James and Ann Nicholas had 10 children born alive with seven still living in 1911. I have birth/baptism dates for seven with the remaining three taken from the GRO Index.
James Nicholas born at St Erth 13th April 1847 and baptized 23rd May 1847 son of John Nicholas and Margaret Cock who married at St Erth in 1837. Ann Reynolds born at St Erth 15th September 1843 and baptized 6th November 1843 daughter of Walter Reynolds and Jane Stevens who married at St Erth in 1841.
Children that I can confirm (all events at St Erth and dates from the Parish Register):- 1. Charles born 13th August 1870 and baptized 7th October 1870 2. James Henry baptized 8th March 1872 3. unnamed male born March Qtr 1874 4. William Francis born 1st December 1875 and baptized 11th April 1876 5. Mary Elizabeth born 31st January 1878 and baptized 10th May 1878 6. Richard Reynolds born 4th August 1880 and baptized 1st October 1880 7. Sarah Ann born March Qtr 1883 Vol 5c Page 249 8. Walter born March Qtr 1883 Vol 5c Page 249 9. Jane baptized 12th September 1884 10. Ethel born 21st June 1887 and baptized 9th September 1887

My link is pretty far out for a DNA match, but I think Jackie and I are 8th cousins (as are Spike and I) with common ancestors Francis Ford and Amy Kitto-- this would be on her Nicholas line to Hodge and Ford (the latter mine.)
I often wished I had more cousins; I guess you just have to live long enough!

It is great not only to find our history but also those with whom we share it. For me, it makes the world a smaller place. If by my DNA results and other evidence/records, I have indeed correctly established the parents of my 4th great-grandmother, Jennifer/Jane Taylor (wife of William Semmons of Crowan) then I am also Isambard's 8th cousin once removed on the Quick line. Nothing to contradict it so far. Zib

It appears that Ethel Nicolas, James Quick Nicholas's mother, married Ira Scraxton (b. abt 1880 Wellingborough or Podington Bedfordshire) reference Redruth Q3 1917 vol 5c page 283, their approx ages - Ethel 30, Ira 37. Ira Scraxton is listed as a 'shoe finisher", Rushden, Northamptonshire, in both the 1901 and 1911 censuses. His WWI service records indicate date of entry (Attestation?) 11-8-15, Theatre of War 'France". Two entries appear in the Courts Martial Registry (no further details shown): 23 December 1915 'In Field' 16 November 1916 'In Field". A possible discharge index record bears the date 19-6-19. Ira Scroxton died abt June 1939 Ludgvan. It's interesting to speculate as to where and when Ira met Ethel, leading to their 1917 Redruth marriage. Maybe the Cornishman has the answer? Isambard

Nothing to contradict it so far. Zib Zibetha, interesting that we may be 8th cousins once removed - amongst many thousands of eighth cousins that each of us must have. Its a small world indeed! I assume that you've found Quick/Semmens-Semmons relationships at the 7th great-grandparent level or thereabouts, apart from those known later. ? My family tree (Newton-MacDougall Tree on Ancestry) has only a limited number of Quicks and Semmens (and no Semmons) to let me see that far back in time. However, I'm working on it! Isambard

Isambard, I am sending you a PM with what I think is our link. I am trying to link various Semmons/Semmens/Symons lines should I live so long.
Greetings from North America,
