I have a slight problem with Christopher Trewhella's date of death. Christopher was born at Lelant in 1809 and died in 1870 - he is also buried in the same grave as his mother in Lelant Churchyard with very clear inscriptions on the headstone.
My dilemma is that I now have three sources for his death and each gives a different date!
England and Wales Probate Calendar - 23rd March 1870
Inscription on the Headstone - 24th March 1870
The West Briton published 31st March 1870 - 25th March 1870
Now, I guess he could have been teasing everyone and playing Lazarus but ...............
What I would like to know is whether anyone has seen a death certificate for Christopher or if anyone has an opportunity to be able to view the entry in the Death Register?
Christopher wrote his Will on March 23rd and it was proved at Bodmin on April 4th. I have an official copy of this Will and it was recorded when Proved that Christopher died on March 23rd. This supports the National Probate Calender entry (which has been known to contain errors!) and means that Christopher must have died soon after signing the Will. However, the Will was proved on the oath of Christopher's brother William Trewhella of Gulval and although he was not a witness it may be possible that he confused the date of the Will with the date of death.
In any case, I still have three different dates and I really would like to know which of them is actually correct. If anyone can help it would be very much appreciated.
