Hi all. I am a descendent of a James Tregear Chenhalls (B 1847 Respletha St Levan, D 1921 Echuca Victoria Australia) and Mary Banfield Taylor (B 1848 Reawla, Gwinear D 1916, Echuca Victoria Australia)
The "Tregear" name has been a given middle name (form males and females) in so many of the Chenhalls in our family line, every subsequent generation in Australia has a "Tregear" middle name and it also existed in the family who remained in Cornwall. I am keen to find where this came from. I realise there was a John Tregear, some centuries before, who was a significant Cornish writer, but I am hoping to find if there's an actual family link or if it was a name which was simply added in the mid 19th century.
Appreciate any information or tips.
