Hi
Does anyone have access to the Biographical index SA 1836-1885 online?
Also, does anyone know what the numbers mean?
For instance 359/1 and 359/2.
The former number 359 seems to a number allocation of a family that is alphabetical based.
Both numbers relate to Curnow families, most of whom are listed as Remittance Emigrants. They could all be related to the person providing the remittance..... Most are definitely related to each other.
I would be really appreciative of any information greater than the transcripts on sites such as Findmypast and The Shipping List as I have those.
I am especially interested in William Curnow, aged 18, miner from Cornwall. He is on the Queen Bee, 1865. B-index number 359/2.
Thanks Robyn

I'm not sure if BISA is available online. I have the CD. There is probably not much more on it than you already have re your William Curnow. The people who compiled the index used all the sources available to them at the time and William seems to have appeared in Shipping lists and nothing else. It may have been that he moved out of South Australia fairly soon after his arrival. There were other Curnows on the Queen Bee. His entry appears on page 359 so I'm assuming that's what the numbers you are quoting refer to.
CURNOW William b: 1847 CON ENG arr: 1865 QUEEN BEE occ: Miner
CURNOW Thomas b: 1814 CON ENG arr: 1865 QUEEN BEE occ: Miner m: Jane b: 1816 ch: Alice (1851-), Thos (1855-)
CURNOW Thomas b: 1829 CON ENG arr: 1865 QUEEN BEE occ: Miner m: unknown b: 1832 ch: Wm (1857-), Thos (1864-)
CURNOW Richard b: 1848 CON ENG arr: 1865 QUEEN BEE occ: Miner
Looking at GRO and OPC, Thomas b 1814 is probably the father of William Henry, Richard Rowe, Alice White and Thomas Curnow. Their mother was Jane nee Curnow.

Hi
I just did a GEDmatch with you and got
Comparing Kit A469841 (Robyn Dundas) and A251986 (*Spike Harwood)
Minimum threshold size to be included in total = 500 SNPs Mismatch-bunching Limit = 250 SNPs Minimum segment cM to be included in total = 3.0 cM
Chr Start Location End Location Centimorgans (cM) SNPs 2 134,285,767 138,737,332 3.7 597 Largest segment = 3.7 cM Total of segments > 3 cM = 3.7 cM 1 matching segment

Hi Robyn and thanks for checking GEDmatch. Once a reading drops below 7cM's and 700 SNPS it is likely to be false. This is probably the situation here. Also I've checked your kit against several people who I have quite large matches with covering that segment and beyond and you don't match any of them either. Cheers Spike
