Okay, I have found another POTENTIAL link for William Curnow but it DOES NOT involve William Curnow and Elizabeth Bolitho!
I have only worked on one of the DNA records so far and it brings us back to the marriage of James Thomas and Elizabeth Curnow at Ludgvan in 1814. The line I have worked on was that of Sedwell Ann Thomas - Henry Binmore Thomas - James Oates Thomas which brings us back to the above 1814 marriage.
Elizabeth Curnow was born at Ludgvan in 1793 daughter of Henry Curnow and Loveday Warren with Henry in turn baptized at Ludgvan in 1770 son of Henry Curnow and Elizabeth Warren.
I cannot guarantee any of this work as there are quite a number of records that cannot be found but there is certainly adequate circumstantial evidence to suggest that I might be on the right track.
One thing I should point out before going any further is that the line I am working on would seem to NOT involve the William Curnow baptized at Towednack in 1846. As he appears to be the William Curnow with the Honeychurch family in 1861 and probably also the William age 18 on the Queen Bee then those records also are probably not involved. We would then have to try and track down any other records that might link to the Queen Bee.
However, if we follow the DNA trail we have already shown enough evidence to suggest that William of 1846 cannot belong which means no direct Curnow link to William Curnow and Elizabeth Bolitho can be found. The alternative, as Sue suggested, is that if there is a link for Robyn via DNA to the Curnows in the US whose test kit numbers have been provided then that link must be via another route.
Here is what I have been able to come up with so far:-
The common ancestor in this scenario is Henry Curnow baptized at St Ives in 1740 to Zacharias Curnow and Elizabeth Jenkyn. Henry married Elizabeth Warren at Ludgvan in 1767 and then Margaret Stratton also at Ludgvan in 1778.
The eldest son of Zacharias and Elizabeth Curnow was son Zacharias (Zechariah) baptized at Ludgvan in 1768 who married Martha Edwards at Ludgvan in 1789. Their eldest son was Matthew born at Ludgvan in 1789 and he married Jane Williams at Ludgvan in 1813.
The eldest son of Matthew and Jane Curnow was also named Matthew and he was born at Ludgvan in 1814. This Matthew married Philippa Williams at Ludgvan 31st July 1837.
Now this is where some of the uncertainty comes in and where several records are missing (or at least not locatable for the moment).
Matthew and Philippa had six children born in England from 1838 to 1849 and at least two more sons born in Michigan before the family relocated to Connecticut. This is a long way from Australia but .............
Of the children born in England there are two for whom I can find no birth or baptism records but they do appear in the 1851 Census so obviously they did exist!
Matthew born Ludgvan 1838 married Ann Trewhella at Cheshire, Connecticut in 1863 and died at Virginia City, Nevada, in 1884.
Philippa Williams born at Ludgvan in 1840 and married a van Wart in Connecticut.
Catherine born at Ludgvan about 1842 and married Graham Watts in Connecticut. She died at Cheshire, CT in 1869.
apparently born in Wales about 1844
Elizabeth born in Ireland in February 1848 and baptized in Scotland in March 1848. She married Joseph Trewhella at Meriden, Connecticut in 1867 and died in Pennsylvania in 1887.
Jane born at Ludgvan in 1849 and baptized Marazion Wesleyan Circuit.
John born in Michigan about 1853 although the 1870 Census shows his birthplace as Ireland
Thomas born in Michigan about 1856
According to Philippa's information in the 1900 US Census she had been in the US for 48 years. Matthew Curnow arrived in the US in 1849 and is not present in the 1851 Census so the family must have followed in either late 1851 or in 1852.
1851 Census - Ludgvan
Philippa Curnow, head, mar, 33, born Redruth
Matthew Curnow, son, single, 13, born Ludgvan
Philippa Curnow, daughter, single, 12, born Ludgvan
Cathrine Curnow, daughter, 8, born Ludgvan
William Curnow, son, 7, born Wales
Elizabeth Curnow, daughter, 3, born Ireland
Jane Curnow, daughter, 1, born Scotland
Philippa Williams, mother, widow, 66, born Redruth
1860 Census - Michigan, USA
Mathew Curnow, 46, born England
Philipa Curnow, 44, born England
Mathew Curnow, 22, born England
Philipa Curnow, 20, born England
Kate Curnow, 18, born England
Elizabeth Curnow, 12, born Scotland
Jane Curnow, 10, born England
John Curnow, 7, born Michigan
Thomas Curnow, 4, born Michigan
NOTE - William is not with the family in 1860 and cannot be found elsewhere in the 1860 US Census. I can also find no death record for him in England but unfortunately death/burial records for Michigan during the 1850s are lacking. I can find no reference to William in any of the available records.
The question is whether William went to the US with the family or whether for some unknown reason he remained in Cornwall. The one record that might help answer that is the passenger list but so far I have not been able to find any of the family except for Matthew in 1849.
If William remained in Cornwall then the next question to ask would be where was he in 1861?
We still need to follow up on 1846 William to find what happened to him but I suppose it is still possible that it was not him but rather the son of Matthew and Philippa on the Queen Bee. Whichever way we look at that passenger list it seems that it was merely coincidence that William was on the same voyage as two other Curnow families.
The key points regarding William son of Matthew and Philippa are:-
1. he was born about 1843 or 1844 so matches William in Hill End regards to his age
2. he does not seem to have accompanied his family to America in 1851/2
3. he does have a direct lineage back to Henry Curnow and Elizabeth Warren
4. his lineage provides a link to at least some of the DNA test kits that show links to Robyn
I will try and do some more work on this tomorrow and will also check some of the other DNA matches to see if any further clues can be found.
