I've just tried to look at St. Blazey registers on the Familysearch site and got this pop-up windows:
"Please Sign In These images are viewable: To signed-in members of supporting organizations. When using the site at a family history center."
Has this just happened? The parish register images were a wonderful free resource for Cornish family historians and it would be extremely disappointing to lose access to them.

Roger, it must have been several years ago now that I opened up a free account with Family Search. I get a pop up, but not like the one you got, it just asks for user name and password. My computer "remembers" that info for me and I can opt to stay logged in for two weeks. I've always assumed that records could not be accessed unless one had an account. I use RootsMagic as my Family Tree software and it has a link and hints connection with Family Search. When I use that I can log on to Family Search without actually visiting their website. Maybe something has changed for you with what software/sites you are using. Opening an account might be your best solution. It's mainly harmless, they seem to email me a newsletter once a month but no other intrusions.

Oooh I lost my post! Like Spike, I registered online at Family Search, with (I think) the goal of saving records. I have the luxury of being close to 5 LDS service centers. I have ordered a number of films that helped me identify my father's family. One of the first images I saw was a great-great-grandfather's signature on a birth record. Roger, I don't know why "normal" records would be assigned local viewing only. That seems strange to me.

Well, my panic has abated somewhat. If I go through the Familysearch search engine i.e enter a name I do get the transcript plus a link to the PR image if available. Once into the images it does seem possible to scroll through the pages as before. However, when I try to select the particular Historical Records Collection and then try to browse a register I get the behaviour I noted above - I'm sure that worked in the past. Thanks for the replies and the tip on opening an account with Familysearch- I think I signed up in the distant past but I never bother to login since there didn't seem to be any benefit. Edit: Back to gloom again. While image links have worked in a few instances, mostly they don't and I get the same pop-up, as referenced in this wiki entry: familysearch.org/wiki/en/Restrictions_for_Viewing_Images_in_FamilySearch_Historical_Record_Collections

I too had the same message from familysearch, however family search seems to be working fine now without having to create an account tonight. I have just been looking at records and all seems ok . Hope it continues as it is a really valuable resource.

Thanks for that, Wilma. I have tried again and, as you say, access to the register images seems to have been restored. A great relief!
