I'm intrigued by the actions of "Prince" Leonard George Casley & decided to find out whether or not he is related to my St. Just Casley ancestors. I found records regarding his birth on 27 Aug 1925 in Kalgoorlie, his marriage to Shirley Joy Butler in Fremantle on 19 Apr 1947, Shirley's death on 07 Jul 2013, & the births of his seven children between 1947 & 1958. I got absolutely nowhere in respect of his ancestors! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Allan.

The attachments give examples of the "eccentric" actions of "Prince" Leonard George Casley. Allan.

I gather that although you have a date of birth for Leonard you do not have the names of his parents? Assuming this to be the case then I suspect that birthdate may have come from a Memorial given that no parents names are recorded in the WA birth index for him. With that in mind I have had a brief look at the WA indexes and arrived at some circumstantial conclusions based on events recorded in those indexes. The birth of Leonard G Casley is recorded in the E Coolgardie district with births either side being a Henry Casley in 1920 and Mervin R Casley in 1930. There are two possible marriages of which I suspect the second may be the parents of Leonard:- Richard C Casley married Hilda I Lawson 1919 Boulder District George W Casley married Enace M L Hunter 1924 E Coolgardie District I don't see a birth for Richard C Casley but there is a possible record for George W. George William Casley born 1905 Brown Hill - parents William Lawry Casley and Emily Mead. There are deaths recorded in the E Coolgardie District for William L Casley in 1934 and for Emily Harriet Casley age 83 in 1957 - these could be the parents of George William. Everything is circumstantial but it may be something for you to work with. CT

And after posting my last I had a look at some Ancestry Family Trees to see what else I could find. What I have seen confirms my suspicions about George William Casley being the son of William Lawry Casley and Emily Harriet Mead and it also produced the following information William:- William Lawry Casley born 18th April 1873 Sandhurst, Victoria son of John Casley and Elizabeth Ann Lawry. A search of the WA Electoral Rolls on Ancestry seems to supply the remaining link! In 1949 Leonard George Casley was a clerk living at 28 Silas Street East Fremantle. Also registered at this address was Enace Myrtle Lillian Casley who had married George William Casley in 1924! The suggested lineage therefore is:- John Casley m. Elizabeth Ann Lawry 1863 Victoria William Lawry Casley m. Emily Harriet Mead George William Casley m. Enace Myrtle Lillian Casley Leonard George Casley John Casley was apparently born about 1838 or 1839 in Cornwall according to the above sources. Elizabeth Ann Lawry appears to have been the daughter of John Lawry (1822 Ludgvan) and Ann Berryman (1822 Towednack) who married at Towednack 6th July 1844. CT

Thank you CT for your replies. I got Leonard George Casley’s birth date of 27 Aug 1925 from “Australia, World War II Military Service Records, 1939-1945”. The record also states “Next of Kin: Enis Casley.” This could be his mother which would confirm her to be the Enace M L Hunter as you suggest.

This means that Prince Leonard is my ninth cousin. I hope that he is not expecting relatives to contribute towards the millions of unpaid tax being claimed off him by the Australian Taxation Office! Relatives in Perth sent me The West Australian 15 Dec 2016 which has an article & photos of Leonard regarding this.

I see in the news that he is abdicating. Are you going to apply for the position? BTW, I met a Casley from Broken Hill at a footy match at Adelaide Oval last year. She's probably more closely related to you than a 9th cousin. Spike
