CT,
I have recently come across a Michigan death record for a Mary Trewhella COX Williams (widow of William Thomas Williams) in Michigan born 1873. She was the daughter of H/Esther Ann Tippett and William Cox. Hesther/Esther was the daughter of Reginald Tippet and Margaret Trewhella born in Crowan (which leads me to think of my branch.) Can you help me identify Mary's grandmother Margaret Trewhella?
Thanks,
Zib

Hi Zib - firstly a thankyou for finding this information and for passing it on to me. I have now spent a little time with US records and located some more information although I cannot find birth records as yet for Mary Trewhella Cox and a couple of other siblings. I did find births for some of the children of William and Esther as well as death certificates for William and Esther on Seeking Michigan. William COCK and Hester Ann TIPPETT were married at Illogan 18th May 1865 (Illogan Banns 1854-1872) and from the US Census it appears they emigrated fairly soon after as daughter Emily was born in Michigan about 1866. I suspect Esther's daughter Mary Trewhella Cox was probably named for Esther's sister Mary Trewhella Tippett with that name forming part of my conclusion that their mother was the daughter of John Trewhella and Mary Holman. Margaret daughter of John Trewheela and Mary his wife was baptized at Crowan 25th July 1807 (born 11th July) CT

I am glad I asked. I seem to have been missing some of John and Mary's children, and Margaret was one of them. I often wondered if my great-great-grandfather had any cousins or other relatives already in Michigan when he went there. Thanks for your help!

I have thirteen children for John and Mary with all having died in Cornwall so it would only be grandchildren or later who emigrated. As far as I know at the moment all the male grandchildren remained in England. Of the daughters of John and Mary only the following were married:-
Mary married Thomas Cory at Crowan in 1816 Grace (Holman) married Thomas Goldsworthy at Crowan in 1823 JANE married Charpes TIPPET at Illogan in 1834 <====== (Charles was a brother to Margaret's husband) Martha married Robert Richards at Crowan in 1838

Then I need to look for a few more We have had some posts re: Mary and Thomas Cory and Martha and Robert Richards' descendants. I have Grace to Thomas marriage. Looking at my worksheet, I was unsure which Jennifer/Jane married William Stephens, but from the information you just gave, I think she was probably the daughter of Benjamin Trewhela and Margaret Edmunds??? The name game can be helpful piecing these families together but when there are too many used repeatedly, it's a challenge. Zib

Yes, that is correct. Jane was a widow by 1881 at which time she was living at St Columb Minor. William Stephens was a 'mathematics master' and their son John Trewhela Stephens was schoolmaster at Lostwithiel. John married Jane Rowse at Bodmin in 1856 and had a number of children at Lostwithiel and Lanlivery before emigrating to the US. He died at Brooklyn in 1888 and his wife at Lewes, Delaware in 1903 and both are buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn.
