Zacharias George Carthew (my 4th ggrandfather) bp. 31 Dec 1797, Redruth, son of Wm. (1762-1803) and Ann George m. 9 Jan 1796. Married Elizabeth Pellew (Pellow) on 28 May 1827 at Redruth, both were otp. The family arrived in South Australia on the ship Rajah on 24 Sep 1847 after leaving Plymouth on 28 May 1847. Elizabeth died at O'Halloran Hill, South Australia on 20 Oct 1850 and Zacharias snr. died at Kooringa (Burra) South Australia on 9 May 1856.
I have been able to find 3 baptisms of children of Zach and Elizabeth, Zacharias, bp. 26 Jun 1826 (naughty!); Elizabeth Anne, bp. 29 May 1828; and John, bp. 25 Feb 1834; but according to other (possibly unreliable) sources, there were 3 additional children, Sarah b. c. 1836 (shown on 1841 census as aged 5 years); Thomas b. c. 1840 (shown on 1841 census as aged 1 year); and Stephen Pellew b. c. 1842 (Burial record in 1912 shows age as 70).
The passenger list of the Rajah shows all 6 children accompanying Zacharias and Elizabeth. "CARTHEW Zacharias George, Elizabeth PELLEW, Zacharias, Eliz Ann, John, Sarah, Thos, Stephen Pellew arrived in SA 1847-09-24 aboard Rajah from London via Plymouth 47-05-28" (http://www.familyhistorysa.info/shipping/passengerlists.html)
I would like to nail down birth or baptism dates for the latter 3, but there seem to be no records of baptisms of Carthew (var.) in Redruth in OPC after 1837. As the family were still living in Fore Street, Redruth during the 1841 census, this seems curious.
Can anyone help?
Mike

Mike - it is possible that these children were baptised in Non-conformist chapels in which case it is quite possible the OPCs do not have the records to transcribe. I have had a look at a couple of records that I have but not found anything. If you check FreeBMD and note the birth registration details it might give me another avenue to check.
