Hello all,
I am interested in the family and connections of Thomas James Davies (1905 - 1990) and his wife Elsie Ruth Prowse (1907 - 1983). Elsie Prowse was from Abbotskerwell, Devon, so I'm not following that up here, but Thomas' family mostly came from the Penwith area. He lived and worked as a lighthouse keeper. His father, Thomas Richard Davies (1875 - 1946) was a fisherman out of Plymouth in the 1920's, married Mary Martha Griffiths (1883 - after 1922) from Falmouth. We have a family group photo of the family with six children taken in 1914.
I have (I think) traced Thomas' ancestry back through the maternal and paternal lines to ca 1700 without making too many leaps of faith (!)
Would anyone out there like to compare notes?

Hi Taipan72,
haven't checked in in a while! Here is our "Rowe" connection (from Perranuthnoe/Marazion) that I reckon works;) Margaret Richards (bapt. 1725; Perranuthnoe) had Perran Richards (1741 - 1803) out of wedlock (two entries in opc seems to me to be a transcritpion error a year apart). She later married William Rowe (bapt 1717 - 1785) in 1748. Perran had three half siblings, William (1749 – 1772+), Hannah (1751 – 1771+), and Margaret (1754 – 1811). *
Perran Richards married FRances Barnes in May 1770 (Perranuthnoe). The opc has four births between 1772 and 1778 registered to Perran and Frances (in St. Hilary) but the children are registered with "Rowe" as their surname. As an adult Perran Richards/Rowe was living in Marazion and subsequent generations seem to have been more tied to Marazion than Perranuthnoe (except the time when the "Rowe" family was named on a removal order in 1789 and they returned for a while to Perranuthnoe ). There is a bit a jiggery pokery going on with the Richards-Rowe surname BUT usage of the name Perran seems to be pretty unusual as a given name, even in Cornwall, so I think that Perran Richards used his adoptive father's surname for his own children when it suited him but married and died using his mother's maiden name: Richards.
Perran Richards/Rowe named one of his sons "Perran" (1776 - 1846); Perran Rowe married Mary Dunn on 3rd jun 1800. Another son was named John Rowe (bapt 1775 - 1852); John married Thomasin Symons in 1795. Both brothers John and Perran each named one of their children "Perran" - Perran Symons Rowe (bapt 1806) and Perran Dunn Rowe (bapt. 1805) respectively. The two baptisms took place in Marazion.
Perran Rowe and Mary Dunn baptized eleven children between 1800 and 1825. Amongst others, they had a daughter "Elizabeth" (1811 - 1868) who married one William Prisk (1812 - 1876). William Prisk is my husband's 3xG grandfather [TJ Davies b. 1905; TR Davies b. 1875; R Davies b 1852 m. Mary Anne Prisk b. 1854. Mary Ann Prisk was the youngest daughter of William Prisk and Elizabeth Rowe].
William Prisk's maternal grandmother seems to have been one "Mary Rowe" (1737 - 1783) married to George Guy (1735 - 1803) in St. Buryan on 24 Jun 1760. I haven't traced her lineage at all.
Hope this isn't too convoluted to decipher! How do your Rowe's tie in with this?
Look forward to hearing from you:)
*There was a Perran Rowe bapt. 14 Oct 1733 to Sedwell (base son)in Ludgvan and buried 16 Dec 1733.

Butting in here, taipan, to say that I have tried to tie in lighthouse's Rowes with our family but -- as yet -- no luck. I don't think there is a connection, sadly.

Thanks, "CL"--- I approach this with the attitude that we probably are all related and connect people on my tree even if the link seems to be only by marriage. Then I let the search engines do their magic. When I was in college, I took a trip to Spain. It was in January and cold, but a fellow student and I took a walk on the beach at Malaga and watched the fishermen casting out and hauling in their nets manually. My research reminds me of this. The more I am able to extend my tree, the more "fish" I seem to haul in. Zib
