Hi All
Looking for some assistance with the above James DELBRIDGE b.c1806 and Peggy KELLOW b.c1809.
There are Trees on Ancestry who have the wife of James DELBRIDGE as Peggy RICKARD. We have used Ancestry records, OPC Cornwall, Death Indexes (Aust) are as confused as ever.

It always pays to go back to the original sources. The parish register image for this marriage can be found online on familysearch - familysearch.org/search/ . James Delbridge is described 'sojourner' and bachelor, Peggy Kellow described as 'spinster'. This sort of confusion often arises when the bride is a widow and gets married with the name of her late husband, but this is clearly not the case here. Why would you choose to believe Ancestry trees? As has been stated many times on this board, they can be notoriously inaccurate, with errors promulgated by one copying from another.

There is a BISA (Biographical Index of South Australia) entry for James DELBRIDGE. Keep in mind that these are not necessarily 100% accurate and should be used as a guide:
DELBRIDGE James par: John and Jane nee HINKSON: 5.2.1806 Cuthbert CON ENG d : 31.5.1890 Allens Ck SA bd: Kapunda SA arr: 1847 ABOUKIR occ: Engineer, Farmer res: Allens Ck, Kapunda rel: Meth m: 1828 Mgt b: 1808 d: 6.12.1892 Kapunda SA ch: Jas (1830-1907), Eliz Candy (1831-), Anthony (1833-1875), Anne, John (c1840-), Ellen Helena AXFORD(1845-1935), Mary Jane DixoN (1850-), Sarah Victoria WoOLCOCK(1852-1942)
If known, the wife's maiden name is included, but not in this case. If you need any help with SA records, just ask.

Another word of caution is required here Spike. The BISA is not immune from the problems of others either and I have seen more than one example where the maiden name of a wife as provided in the index has been proved to be incorrect. As usual - it is always best to check every piece of information for yourself ..... and from original sources wherever possible! CT Please Note - I am certainly not discouraging the use of BISA! But the information it contains is provided by researchers and as we should all know by now from personal experience no researcher is totally infallible.
