Hi!
I'm looking for Jane Michell b. 1776 - 1848 Cornwall England. I would like to know whom was her parents and siblings? She married Lewis Hodge b.1773 - 1843 Cornwall England. I have all details of Lewis Hodge but just can't seem to get anything for Jane. Any help would be appreciated.
Kind Regards PastPresentFuture

I am not sure where your information comes from but I do think you have things a little mixed up. In the first place you have Lewis Hodge dying in 1843 when in fact he died in 1848 and was buried at St Ives 20th September of that year age 75. In the 1841 Census Lewis was recorded as age 65 whilst wife Jane was age 70. The ages of adults were only required to be rounded down to the nearest five years so the Census information suggests Lewis was born somewhere around 1771-1776 whilst Jane was born around 1766-1771. The details I have for them are as follows:- Lewis son of Christopher Hodge and Mary (nee Noble) was baptised at St Ives 2nd May 1773 and (as above) buried 20th September 1748 at St Ives age 75. Jane Michell was baptised at Zennor 6th May 1770 (privately) daughter of Matthew Michell and his first wife Catherine Stevens. Jane Hodge (nee Michell) was buried at St Ives 14th April 1843 age 74. I forgot to ask? Now that I have the right Jane Michell b.1770, did Matthew Michell b.1735 Zennor and Catherine Stevens b 1739 Zennor have any other children and whom was Matthew's first wife? I have Margaret James??? Is this right ? Also Catherine Stevens b 1739 Zennor whom were her parents? I have Matthew Stevens bapt.1710 and Katherine Curnow bapt.1710 .m. 5/1/1738 Towdenack, Cornwall??? Is this right? And also just to confirm, Matthew Mitchell's parents were Samuel Michell b. 1702 Zennor and Jane Stevens b. 1707 .m. 18/2/1728 Zennor, Is this right?

PPF May I ask where you are getting your information from? Specifically, where did you get the information that Katherine Curnow who married Matthew Stevens was baptized 1710? To my knowledge from my own research, there is no such baptism in the records in that area of Cornwall, and I have an uneasy feeling you may be copying from someone else's erroneous tree...... Are you aware that, for example, the Towednack parish register for the period 1706 - 1720 went missing some 250 years ago? There are some Bishop's Transcripts that partially fill this gap, but not for 1710. For parish records in the area, I would expect examination of the readily available transcriptions on west-penwith.org.uk/and www.cornwall-opc-database.org/search-database/with Family Search transcriptions being less reliable at familysearch.org/and the digital PR images available on FS being excellent "original" source records - familysearch.org/search/image/index#uri=https://familysearch.org/recapi/sord/collection/1769414/waypointsSue

I do believe you might be getting mixed up again. Either that or you may be confusing yourself with multiple Matthew Michells. Currently my records show that Matthew Michell was baptised at Zennor 27th May 1735 son of Samuel Michell and Jane Stevens. Matthew's FIRST wife was Catherine Stevens with that marriage being 3rd January 1765 at Zennor. Matthew Michell's second wife was Jane Eddy whom he married at Zennor 11th February 1778. The Will of Robert Curnow dated 1744 identifies his daughter Catherine as the wife of Matthew Stevens and if you do as Sue suggested and check the records she has indicated you will find that Catherine was baptised some years before 1710! As for any links prior to 1713 at Zennor I am not prepared at the moment to offer anything that you might take as 'gospel truth'. I have a lot of work to do before I can confidently identify the Michell and Stevens people involved purely because there is so little information to work with. Although the register for Zennor prior to 1713 does survive it is in extremely poor condition with much of it unreadable due to water damage or fragmentation. And although there are Bishops Transcripts they do not survive for every year so there are many gaps. Re marriage of Matthew Michell and Margaret James - This marriage took place at Towednack in 1755 with that Matthew Michell being the son of Christopher Michell and his wife Catherine for whom no marriage has yet been found. (It is very likely the marriage will not be found as it probably occurred at Towednack during the period Sue spoke of when the register 'went missing'. Like Zennor there are Bishops Transcripts but they do not survive for every year.) CT

Thank You to both Sue and Cornish Terrier
As I said I do not know much on Jane's side, the information I am getting is through Ancestry.com, some info are from christenings, deaths, marriages and some family trees with documentation. I have them all as queries until the right one fits. It seems that I am on the right website for Jane Michell now. I do have info on the names you wrote CT, and I will follow up with them now. Thank You to both Sue and CT for giving me a direction I can work on now
