I am looking for any family who may still be living in Cornwall! I am descended from Jane Rapson and Thomas Nance who came to Australia in the 1850's. Jane had siblings, one a Hannah Rapson who married a Samsom Curnow. I am pretty sure they had children, one being Kate Trewhella ( nee Rapson) who in turn had sons John and Martin.
Any information on descendants of the above would be so welcome. Maybe I have family still in Cornwall!
Thank you so much for any help given.

Hello Lynn - you have come to the right place. I am not sure if you are aware of the fact but you do have at least one more Trewhella connection before Kate Trembath Curnow. Hannah Rapson's grandmother was a Margaret Thomas who married William Rapson in 1791. Margaret had been previously married to Martin Trewhella in 1783 and had four children with him. If you scroll down the Home Page you will find a selection of 'Surnames of General Interest' including Trewhella and Curnow. We don't have a specific section for Rapson as it was discovered quite early that to create areas for every surname would not be at all practical. So for any queries about Trewhella or Curnow you can use the forum under that name if you wish. The alternative is to go to the Parishes Section where you will find a forum for Towednack and another for Ludgvan. The common Parish for these three families would probably be Ludgvan so you could also start your discussion there. Have a look at the information you have and make your decision and then simply create a new thread in the appropriate are and we will help you. CT

Hi there, My notes record that Kate Trembath Curnow married John Trewhella in 1882 at Lelant. John Trewhella is a first cousin, three times removed, to me. John died abt 1889 in South Africa and Kate went to Canada/USA after 1901. I recorded 5 children for that couple. Matthew, John, Sampson Curnow, Martin & William. I have recorded that Matthew married Hettie Lory Nicholls, and Martin married Helen Nicholls, both marriages in the USA. I've not explored that line any further as yet. You would definitely still have family in Cornwall, but unlikely from that line after Kate departed. The other sons died early, or in WW1. Simon

Simon, Thank you so much for your reply, which I have just seen. I have been unlucky with both the Cornish and Irish side of my family living still in those countries, as most , almost all, migrated either to America or Australia! I will keep searching and hopefully come up with some family still in Cornwall. Again my thanks for your input Simon Regards, Lyn

I think I have been following a wrong lead! Back to square 1 on the Nance side. Looking to find the parents of my ggg grandfather Thomas Nance who was baptized on the 16th November 1834 in St Mewan. His father was John Nance ( he was a carpenter) but I am unsure of his mother's name. I thought it was Susannah Allen but I think I have been wrong.
Not sure where to look now.

Hi What is causing you doubts? Iif you are using actual records as your source for family relations, I'm not sure Jane Rapson's spouse Thomas Nance should be a problem... If you look on www.cornwall-opc-database.orgyou will find a bunch of children for John & Susan(na...) Nance at St Ewe/St Mewan 1820 onwards. In 1841/51 they are all lined up at Sticker in St Mewan; by 1861 the children have left home. If you then look for a marriage of John Nance to S% 1820 or earlier, just the one candidate I think! Sue

As Sue has asked - 'what is causing you doubts?' - I think that is the key question and should be investigated and answered before going too much further. If you can explain just why you are now unsure about this then we can take a look at the problem and try to resolve those doubts for you. CT
