Gabriel Casley son of Richard was baptised on 17 Mar 1738. Gabriel Casley son of Gabriel was baptised on 07 Mar 1739. I think that one married Joan White & that the other married Loveday Lethan. I'm looking for a way to show which Gabriel married which of the two ladies. Allan.

The easiest way to start is to review the list of children for each Gabriel. If both have a son named Richard then there is a problem but if you find that only one of these Gabriels name a son Richard then the odds would be in favour of that Gabriel being son of Richard. You could also look for usage of female names to see if they might help identify the mothers. Of course if Richard and Gabriel senior both married women of the same name then that idea would be 'out the window'! CT

Baptisms for children of Gabriel & Joan are:- 02 Nov 1767 Noah 29 Oct 1769 Mary 25 May 1771 Phillis & my comments:- Gabriel son of Richard has a mother Philis Edwards, a brother Noah, & a sister Mary. Baptisms for children of Gabriel & Loveday are:- 25 Jun 1769 Gabriel 12 Aug 1771 James then a long gap to 16 Feb 1782 Jane 16 Jul 1786 William & my comment:- Gabriel son named after his father. No son Richard for either but pointers are towards Gabriel son of Richard marrying Joan White. Allan.

That is how I would read it at the moment.
I cannot explain the gap between children for Gabriel and Loveday but you will find that this Gabrel remarried. Loveday was buried at St Just in 1888 and in February 1793 Gabriel married a widowed Jane Pascoe.

CT I had widowed Jane Pascoe married to Gabriel's widowed son Gabriel in 1793, when he was 24, with a daughter Ann bap 1794. I had added a note re too young for both to be widowed; you have explained that it was Gabriel senior, not junior, who married Jane. It was the only marriage I could find for Gabriel junior between 1780 & 1800. Perhaps he never married or he was the Gabriel who was buried on 26 Sep 1773. Allan.

Assumptions! - I have records of people married at age 20 and widowed at age 20 so you need to be wary of assumptions. However a comparison of the marks made by the groom in both the 1766 and 1793 marriages indicates it is the same Gabriel Casley so it would be the husband of Loveday who was widowed and then married Jane Pascoe. It is also possible that Jane was many years younger than Gabriel. The 1773 burial 'might' be the younger Gabriel but there are one or two other possibilities as well and then there is a burial in 1810 to be considered. And don't forget the possibility that if oneo f these men was a fisherman or otherwise involved with the sea that he may have been lost at sea in which case there would be no burial record. You could narrow the field down a little by comparing Gabriel Casley baptisms with Gabriel Casley burials. Only after 1813 will you find ages noted and you will need to look for variant spellings (e.g. CaZley). CT
