Yes indeed. And to all who help fight the bush fires, thank you but do take care. Bad day today in Vic and SA. Houses lost but thankfully no lives. Spike

While we share so much culturally, it shocks me to see how different our practical worlds can be. Fire season is something completely unknown to me. Our temperature here in the Upper Midwest is expected to go to 3 degrees below zero (Fahrenheit) today -- bitter winter. I will stop moaning and groaning about paying the electrical bill. I can always wear thicker sweaters and pile on more blankets at night.
Needing to go out of the office and start up the car midday now seems like a very small thing.

Thanks all for your best wishes. Unfortunately we are in for a long, hot and dangerous Summer and what we have had so far is probably just a small taste of what may come. We can hope that it won't happen but in reality we have to be practical.
We do have a couple of milder days forecast now but I think that will be but a brief respite. The forecasts are for warmer than average temperatures and lower than average rainfall and the grasslands and forests are all dry as a bone with the possible exception of East Gippsland in Victoria. Lightning is the main concern being responsible for many fires every year.
