Do you know who the James Quick is that married Ann Glasson in Stoke Damerel on the 2nd June 1835? James was a private in the Royal Marines and Ann was said to be of the parish whereas James was said to be of a parish. Is this perhaps the couple that ends up in Bassingbourne, Cambridgeshire - possible son of Israel Quick and Sally Richards??

Yes, I believe James was the son of Israel and Sally and Ann daughter of John and Elizabeth (nee Trewhella) Glasson. There was a daughter Ann born at St Clement in 1843 and they were Master and Matron of the Bassingbourn Workhouse in 1851. Unfortunately I have not found a baptism for the daughter and nor have I found the family after the 1851 Census.

Seems like when the rainy days came (thread "Ann Glasson bptzd 28 jan 1811 Towednack"), I forgot to go do some searching at the Hertfordshire Records Office regarding this Bassingbourn Workhouse Master couple James Quck~Ann Glasson, as I promised to do way back in 2010!!! I shall put this on my To Do list, for sometime this winter when I'm bored..... Sue

CT and Sue
I have re-read the earlier thread and I noted that I made mention of the fact that if the assumptions were correct then there must be a reason why they were both away from home.
On reading the Parish entry more correctly - James Quick, a Private in the Royal Marines, and Ann Glasson of this Parish, a spinster........ the reason is evident as to why the marriage would have been held in Stoke Damerel.
However a couple of assumptions need to be made... Ann would have been in Stoke Damerel for sometime prior to the marriage for her to be "of this Parish". And James must have left the Marines soon after in order to become a shoemaker by the 1841 census.

I think there can be little doubt about the identities of James and Ann and as you say James must have left the RM sometime prior to 1841. Ann may have been in service in the area hence her 'of the Parish' status but it is also possible she had made her way to Devon and taken up residence sometime beforehand in preparation for the marriage.

Hello once more Now that you can see the maiden name of the mother at a birth it shows that the maiden name of the Ann Quick born Dec qtr 1843 in Truro was Glasson.

Thanks Karlan - that now helps confirm my thoughts about her parents James Quick and Ann Glasson. According to what I have since found the family ended up in Adelaide South Australia. James died at Adelaide in 1856 or 1857 there being some confusion over the records. The Death Registration shows that he died at Adelaide 19th November 1856 yet the Adelaide Cemetery Authority records show that he was buried 20th November 1857! Ann Quick (nee Glasson) died at Adelaide 21st September 1874 and was buried 23rd September and both are buried in West Terrace Cemetery.
Daughter Ann appears to have been married twice. She first married William McClellan at St Paul's Church Adelaide 20th May 1864 and had two daughters. William died 23rd December 1868 and Ann remained a widow until 26th January 1881 when she married Axel Anderson at the Registry Office Port Adelaide. Axel Anderson died at Belmont in Western Australia in 1929 and is buried at Karakatta Cemetery in Perth but I am not sure about Ann. She may be the Ann Anderson who died at Sunbury in Victoria in 1943 and recorded with parents 'unknown'.
