Not sure whether this is the right place to put this, but it is sort of Trewhella related! I have Samuel Michell (abt 1829, Ludgvan) as the son of Samuel Michell (abt 1798-1872) and Martha Trewhella (abt 1803-1856). In 1851 he is a carpenter living with his parents at Nancledra. Then disappears off the radar until 1881 when he is found as a lodger in his sisters (Margaret Trewhella Michell) household in Penzance. With him is his wife "E. J.", ( born abt 1845, Brazil) and his son Samuel T. Michell (born abt 1862, Brazil). Samuel and his son are recorded as being carpenters. Can't find them after 1881.
Anyone have any idea of the maiden name for E.J.? I presume that she was of Cornish ancestry and that the marriage was in Brazil, as she would have been 16-17 when the son was born. There is a Brazilian born child as a visitor (Elizabeth Pearce, age 4, born Brazil) in the 1861 census of Samuel's father at Nancledra, so there was to and fro between the Michell family and Brazilian connections back then.
The Morro Velho gold mine enterprise seems the most likely connection, and Novo Lima most likely the place of marriage. But I'm going out on a limb!

Simon - I puzzled over that one for a long time until ................
Samuel Michell married Elizabeth Jane Martin 24th December 1858 Morro Velho, Minas Gerais, Brazil (Samuel was a carpenter engaged by the St John del Rey Mining Company)
Elizabeth was apparently born at Morro Velho in 1843 to Benjamin and Mary Martin but that was as far as I got last time I did any checking.
Samuel Trewhella Michell was born at Morr Velho in 1862 but again no further details when I last looked.
There are two interesting baptisms that I also found although I have not yet been able to connect them to the above family:-
Adelaide daughter of Samuel and Roza Michell baptised 25th February 1883 Nossa Senhora da Conceicao, Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil Eduardo son of Samuel and Roza Michell baptised 6th October 1884 Nossa Senhora da Conceicao, Campinas, Sao Paulo, Brazil

That would make Elizabeth Jane a mere 15 years of age at time of marriage marrying a 29 year-old man? Due to a dearth of eligible candidates in the area? Or possibly a late baptism?
But it would have been possible for her to have been the grandmother of Adelaide and Eduardo (baptisms on Family Search, which has been my "go-to" source researching other family lines in South America. Not an easy task.) I don't immediately see a naming pattern link, though.

John Michell Curnow was 35 when he married 17 year old Annabella Forrester in Jamaica 1860, old enough to be her father, so there was something about these macho Cornishmen when they went to work in that part of the world...... Sue
