Yep - but you will have to remind me about them. A couple of problems involved here with some of my books being a 'little delicate' and I don't want to damage them. But I do have numerous 'samples' and the books also include things like 'Starry-gazy pie' and many other 'Cornish Delights'
Keep at me and I will see what I can do.

The receipe I had called for chopped 'turnip' which I happily used for years (they are quite tasty), until someone informed me that what they call turnips in Britian are really rutabegas in the US. Now rutabegas must be the only vegetable in existance that is harder than a diamond.... However, if cooked long enough in small enough pieces they are quite palatable. I usually use half turnip and half rutabega now...

Although a recipe will call for turnip in a pasty,in Cornwall we use swede.Although we will ask for a turnip When I make them my husband has potato, swede, onion and chuck steak. Dotted with butter and seasoned with salt and pepper. Sometimes he has parsley. I am a vegetarian and use cheese instead a beef and I don't like swede in a pasty but will eat it raw or boiled for other meals.

Save a cow but leave the vegetables to 'turnip their toes'? ;D No offence intended but thought it worth a mention after a long night working on family stuff.

Okay, obviously I'm far from my Cornish roots. What is a pasty?

It is a sort of hand held meat and veggie pie. The miners used to take them down the mines as their main meal. Sometimes they would be crimped in the middle, with meat and veggies on one side and a dessert filling on the other! I kind of cheat on mine, because I use a ready-made pie crust and bake it all in a pie pan. I usually use steak trimmings, turnip, rutabega, potato, onion and parsley. Been a long time since I made one tho'. I have a couple of turnips hanging around - I ought to go get a pie crust and make one soon! Yum!

Nice to have you back CALSWIMMER - you seem to have been taking a rest for a while. As mentioned earlier in this thread, I have quite a few recipes for the Cornish Pasty in my books. Also have recipes for lots of other Cornish Tucker which I want to try 'one day'. Will try to post a few on this thread at some stage but cannot promise when it will be. If anyone wants them urgently then 'hound me' and I will get something done.

Hello: Cornish pasties sound wonderful, much like the Quebecois tourtiere? Here we have "meat pies," somewhat the same, I supppose.

My granny used to make them every Friday for all the family. Now I just go to a good pasty shop ;D I did make them once (just the once), but they cost more than the shop one and took ages to make and cook, so I haven't bothered since .
