Let's not forget our friends colleagues and relations in Cornwall suffering because of the storms. Hang on in there....it can't last forever.

Not forgotten!
But it might also be worth a thought for all those of Cornish background (and the rest of the population) in Victoria this weekend. Total Fire Bans issued for both Saturday and Sunday with fire danger in the Extreme forecast for Sunday. It could end up being revised to Code Red which means that if a fire starts almost anywhere in the State then someone is likely to lose a home if not worse. A fire starting in those conditions will be almost impossible to stop!
Guess we Cornish are copping it at both ends right now.

Some dramatic pictures on the BBC but we have survived and a little respite today. they say Cornwall is cut off from England! we say England is cut off from Cornwall . Last weekend the sea came along the wharf at St Ives - movie footage at Stivestv.co.uk. Looks like there are some pretty big fires burning in Victoria - stay safe CT

Agreed Londoner. I mailed 'Cousin Jack' when the line was cut at Dawlish to tell him that Great Britain was now cut off. Awful about Victoria too...yes stay safe CT.

Hi All - At least you guys don't have the problem we do - rain, storms and floods are rather difficult to cause deliberately and maliciously. Of the many fires that started yesterday in Victoria the police suspect 12 may have been the work of arsonists! Reports indicate that at least 30 homes have been lost as a result of fires yesterday and there is potential yet for many more with the weather heading back into the high 30s and 40s in the coming days. Cornwall and Victoria are suffering different kinds of storms and we too have had a little respite today albeit just a temporary drop in the temperature. England cut off from Cornwall? Now that would be a relief!

What a shame that people would be so malicious. Here in the Upper Midwest, we are experiencing the effects of the "Polar Vortex," 13 degrees below zero F today (about -25 C) It is anticipated that Lake Superior will completely freeze over this year (at about 95% plus right now.)
I go to work, buy groceries at lunchtime, keep my car's gas tank at least half full and otherwise stay home and work on my family tree. The good news is Minnesota is the number 2 state in the US for longevity. Number 1 is Hawaii -- total opposite. What am I doing here? Oh, or what is the % of Cornish residents of Hawaii? Zip?

Wind speeds of over 100 mph here in N.Wales. Our local Met Office weather station recorded winds gusting to 64 mph. I had to go out as I was playing in a local production of "Les Mis". Hairy drive along the country lanes as trees were falling and debris flying around. One road completely blocked so had to make a detour. Following the performance the wind seemed to have dropped considerably but the weather station still reports gusts of 55 mph. Must be getting used to it!!!(and it's stopped raining).

Rain? I vaguely remember rain, and know it will be back soon.
My great-greatgrandfather moved his family south from Houghton. Michigan to Iron Mountain by sleigh. I have trouble imagining that. He was later a drayman, so I guess he knew what he was doing. I don't suspect that he learned that from living in Gwinear.
My grandfather would always pull his truck over and help push out a stranded vehicle-- and taught us to pop a car out of a snowbank -- once you were at least age 11 and wouldn't fall under it. I have embarrassed a couple of Northern men with that ability. Part of the key to that is wearing boots.
You know and live your weather. At least I don't have to worry about hurricanes!
