I have just stumbled across a marriage St Ives 10 October 1841, Benjamin Pellow son of Benjamin to Mary Curnow she daughter of James. This Mary Curnow could be a 25 year old servant St Ives 1841; but more importantly, is she daughter of James Curnow~Dorothy Bolitho?? I'm not sure I have other candidates....... However, I haven't yet found further trace of Benjamin & Mary to give me any more clues....... Any inspiration out there??? Sue

How About the couple at Lelant in 1871 ? Benjamin b c 1819 and Mary 1816 Towednack ? Transcribed Pellew at ancestry and similarly in 1881'. Haven't got them earlier yet.

I was about to offer the Kellows in 1861 as well but, fortunately, checked the latest posts first! But I had not been able to find them in 1851 until I tried Mary Petero. The reason I had not found them in 1851 is fairly simple. I searched for 'Mary born Towednack 1816' which then tries 1816 and works outwards both back and forward. Given the birthplace transcribed in Ancestry is HARDWICK it is no wonder they could not be found!!! The page is faded and entries difficult to read but the surname is actually written as PELOW and the birthplace, if you take more than a glancing look is actually written as TOWEDNACK! CT

Thankyou, both. My attempts at finding them in Freecen under Mary born Towednack around 1815 had failed spectacularly, so I was feeling this marriage it couldn't be Mary daughter of James Curnow & Dorothy Bolitho after all. Using your info, I have now searched Freecen 1851 for Benjamin born c1819 resident Cornwall - and found Benjamin Peters born Phillack at 30, wife Mary born Towednack yes, but age 26! (Folio: 300A Page: 29 Schedule: 74) Now I'm trying FMP for 1881: marvellous! At Polpeor we have Benjamin Pellew born c1819 Towednack, wife Mary born c1815 yes, but Phillack!! This time the enumerator's error, I think, as Freecen has the same. I'd forgotten how hard finding some of these entries can be!!! I will now give Freecen their due & say that this morning I can see the pair in 1861, actually indexed as Pellow, age 39 and 45 with Phillack for Benjamin & Towednack for Mary. Benjamin seems to be then buried age 60 Lelant in 1890, an impressive reduction in age... Right, well as I say, thankyou to both; I think I'll leave looking for Mary's sister Elizabeth, who I now notice I haven't found post 1851, till another day! Sue
